EXCEL-lent upgrade to an already great book!
This is an excellent upgrade to Essentials/Expert series Mike has been writing for years. His method is clear cut and every lesson is laid out with a mind towards progressing as you go through the book. He even rearranged the chapters a little, I assume his feedback dictated this. Some might ask why there is no Kindle version but I think that would greatly take away from the style of learning Mike has created for these books.Chapter eleven (Create Get and Transform Queries) is a new addition to the book for Excel 2016. I look forward to getting the team up and running with this feature before moving them onto more advanced books. The chapters are not described as of this writing so here you go:Session One: Table and rangesSession Two: Data integration, subtotals and integrationSession Three: Advanced functionsSession Four: Using names and the formula auditing toolsSession Five: What if analysis and securitySession Six: Working with hyperlinks, other applications and workgroupsSession Seven: Forms and macrosSession Eight: Pivot TablesSession Nine: Data Modeling, OLAP, and business intelligenceSession Ten: 3D mapsSession Eleven: Create get and transform queries

This book will help you a lot if you use Excel on a daily basis.
As far as "textbook" style books go this one is excellent. It takes a hands-on approach walking you through the steps of whatever feature the book is introducing. You'll never find yourself flipping the pages because you're wondering when it's going to get to the point.Itt explains so many useful things that will make your life easier. I'm only on section 2 and already I've learned a few things I wish I had known before. I'm embarrased about how much extra work I used to do because I didn't know any better. Some highlights for me were sorting by columns, printing only the currently visible data after a filter has been applied, filtering by multiple criteria at once, highlighting a range without having to scroll .all the way down or selecting everything on the worksheet, etc. Overall a great book.

Love it - over and over
I use this book since 2015 for an Advanced Excel course and recommend it to everyone wherever I teach Excel.(1) The price is unmatched - an academic book will cost a LOT more.(2) The author provides access to all the practice files without access codes/cards.(3) The short-lesson format is great. Most every lesson takes two pages. Two pages - and you learned something new! Want to go on? Next two pages. Don't have a lot of time? In 15 minutes you accomplished something.THE BEST BOOK!

Who knew Excel could do so much? Highly recommended!
I've been using Excel since it first became available. I've learned more from 4 hours with this book than I have in all of those previous years. Very clearly written and illustrated. Very few repetitions, but rather references to previous lessons where repeated procedures are fully explained. Step by step, click by click instructions. This is the closest I've ever come with a book to actually having a knowledgeable, patient instructor sitting next to me. I never knew that Excel was capable of the things Mike demonstrates in this book. For any prospective computer topic authors out there. read this book first to see how it's done. Very highly recommended.

Great book on Excel and I thought I knew a ...
Great book on Excel and I thought I knew a lot, but apparently nothing compared to Mike Smart. Each Lesson is short and easy to follow and are on two facing pages, which makes it easy to follow and complete. It treats the reader with respect by providing a clear instruction of what to do followed by how to do it, if you need it with optional material in the margin. It also avoids repetition. The material is divided into Lessons and Sessions, which makes it easy to take a break after each session and Mike explains why this is important for learning. The exercises are easy to follow and build on existing Excel skills.

It is well written and clear but if you are new to Excel, don’t start with this book
Mike is a really good teacher. I started with the beginner book ‘Essentials’ then bought the ‘Expert’. It is much more advanced and maybe a little to advanced as it gets straight to meat of Excel and find myself having to go over the lessons multiple times in order to grasp the concept. I would recommend it to someone who is at least intermediate.

Nice lesson presentations
Excelente for self teaching! Nice lesson presentations! Iit's not overwhelming! Interesting facts along side and windows keep the reader hooked with the program. And in my opinion, makes me trust even more in the importance of managing the program. The author is very enthusiastic about the program but at the same time, tells you the pros and cons in few themes...

Fabulous book for even the fairly proficient excel user
I consider myself quite proficient in excel having taught it at college level for advanced users for several years and as a highly successful data migration specialist . My intention was to get up to speed with the latest and greatest additional features ot excel 2016 in preparation for training with power BI and DAX. I have been properly humbled! What an absolutely awesome book! Every lesson has some hidden gem with me exclaiming "wow" or "awesome". This will certainly transform some of my work routines to be even more efficient. Highly impressed!! LOVE the step by steps and the unit tests. Just fab!!

Well worth the money - a must have for regular business Excel users!
This book is an invaluable aid to anyone who has to use Excel on a regular basis. I was totally blown away by the new BI materials (Data Model and OLAP, 3D Maps, and Get & Transform. These lessons have opened up an whole new world to me that I never knew existed in Excel 2016. The book is worth buying just for these materials alone as they make otherwise seemingly difficult subject matter easily understandable and within the grasp of any savvy Excel user. Indeed, the whole book is written in an accessible style that gets to the core skills and understanding that you need in order to be a very proficient (if not expert) Excel User. In short, I am delighted with this purchase.

An excellent course
Even if you are pretty proficient with Excel there are some real gems of info in here. Certainly my spreadsheets have been "tidied up" as a result. It is (well) written as a course and progresses logically, building on knowledge gained with a good variety of sample worksheets (free download) to practice with. The section on pivot tables is I think, particularly good.I think it's a bit light on macros but it provides a reasonable grounding of the basics for someone wanting to expand their knowledge in this direction. If you were to work through this book as designed, and took it all in, I think it fair to say you would be regarded as pretty expert at Excel!

I am so sorry I haven't bought it earlier in my life...
I have this book nearly more than a week. I am speechless. The best book for mastering excel. If you really want to further develop your excel skills, this is the book you need. On the job training, easy to understand lots of examples. Tables, pivot tables, structured data, OLAP, you name it. I thought i knew it all, but this book and the advices that provide, made me , rethink, alot. My respects to the writer. A huge bravo!

Not happy about it
Bought it based on the outstanding reviews about the book... Unfortunately it did not meet my expectations...if you are already using Excel regularly this book won't help you whatsoever...if you are new to excel it might be somehow useful...I would not recommend this book
