update on ink problem.
Switched from HP because I didn't like their monthly ink policy and high cost of ink. Brother comes with two year supply of ink (two changes). I thought the printing and color were fine. Seems to be cheapest on the market for ink cost of printing 1 cent/page black; 4.5 cents color they say, though initial cost is high because you buy two ink changes plus the original. Prints two sided and speed is rapid enough for my limited needs. Usually I print black only- using the greyscale option, but it works well for color too. It automatically cleans the cartridges periodically so they don't dry out from limited use.Only trouble I had was figuring out how to scan. Just pressing scan button didn't seem to work. Finally after puzzling for two hours, I got it to scan by going on my computer to control panel and typing in "new scan" - then new scan came up and it worked well.It has a feeder, but when I used that to scan, gave me individual scans rather than a single document with all pages so I just sent them as individual attachments. Maybe there is a way to put them together as a single document while scanning - I don't know. All in all, I am delighted. You can connect it to your computer wired or wireless - I connected it wireless - easy to do.update on ink Dec 2018 - above was written April 2018. Though I very rarely used any color ink; just black, the machine cleans the color cartridges periodically and uses them up fast. I bought the printer in April and by December the color cartridges showed all used up. I was surprised since I used so little. I looked on line and someone suggested putting white on the clear windows of the color cartridges so you can continue to use the printer for scans or for black printing. It worked. Usually I only want black. They said an alternative is to put a piece of black tape over the sensor, but I didn't see how to do that and the whiteout was easier.

This printer does not print labels without an excruciating work-around.
When I purchased this printer I was impressed by the ink supply and cost compared to my old HP. I was tired of buying ink (up to $80 every two months) and this Brother printer was offering me a different approach to buying ink. I am now debating buying a cheap (with super expensive ink) HP just to print labels, which as a teacher, I need to print once a week. After contacting Brother, they acknowledged that this printer is not meant to print labels, but they offered a work-around that involves turning the machine around, opening the back and feeding the sheets one at a time. Very inconvenient. My 20+ year old HP easily handled labels. Two other issues: the printer does not stay wirelessly connected, I have to turn it off and on to get a connection, so I just ordered a cable. The other issue is the size of the paper supply--it does not hold much and, since it is a covered tray that I have to pull out of the computer, I can't see how much paper is left, and it is awkward to remove, fill the tray, and reinsert it. All of this is very annoying. On the positive side, it prints well, it does not eat ink (my first supply lasted 8 months as opposed to two with my HP), and the ink is relatively inexpensive. I like the duplex printing; it saves paper. Most of the time, I like this printer very much. I'm just amazed that they created this printer without the option to print labels built in.

So wish I could have liked it - poor color/wash-out.
Pretty certain the one we received was defective. Color & two sided printing issues. But before I get into that: Took a little longer to set up than expected but managed with no help. The design is incredible, so compact for a multi-function printer very impressed. Love the closed top design and you can tilt the display panel for viewing. Some parts seem very flimsy but not worried if the result was good, just needed to be a bit more careful with them.First photo print that came out was a shocker! Instead of a sharp pink it came out dull with more tan hews. Tried several other photos. Some colors better than others. Though much of the time not only where all photos dull, washed out but color completely wrong. Example, part of the photo that should have been green ended up more tan. Some shadows appeared redish, and human faces red blotchy. Spent the entire time on-line support and using the printer color adjustments. You have an option to choose from vivid or natural, print copies look exactly the same. No matter how we adjusted the color none of the prints showed the correct colors. Found the printer color adjustment difficult to use as it puts up a display photo so you can see how your adjustments are altering the photo, but it really is hard to see any changes. So I just went with it and tried various adjustments. After spending hours making adjustment color quality never improved.Adding a sample in my pic. One on top is the Brother the one on bottom is an older HP. Both set to normal. As far as the DPI they both do an amazing job, but you can see the Brother just can't get the colors even close. In addition two sided printing, several attempts failed. It never drew the paper back, only started a new page. So disappointed, really loved the design.
