Not a spray bottle
I was hoping this could be used as a shave oil and not just a pre-shave oil but that doesn't seem to be the case. I attempted to shave with just this oil and didn't get any cuts but there was some irritation. I am a big fan of another oil called Shave Secret, I use only that and get a great shave with no irritation. I am likely going to use them in a combination now which should result in an even better shave. At the very least I will smell good. I just wish this one could have potentially been used as an exclusive shaving oil because I like the scent.Scent: I am sensitive to anise and don't like the smell very much usually. You can detect it in here but it is not overpowering and I am perfectly okay with it. The one bad thing to say about the scent is it is very difficult if not impossible to wash off. Your hands are going to smell like this stuff all day too. It isn't super strong but it is definitely there. It has a good manly smell to it overall and I do enjoy it.I am unsure if this is only designed as a pre-shave oil or if it is effective as an everyday beard oil. The bottle only says to use it as a pre-shave oil for your skin to prevent irritation. The directions are very specific about rubbing it into your skin and then applying a shaving cream over it.I received a different product than the picture shows, but the product does match the description. The one I received is not a spray bottle, you must shake the oil out of it. I was expecting a spray on beard oil. The bottle arrived open so part of it had spilled out and it was a really sticky mess in there. The fact that this bottle is a stopper bottle and not a spray bottle is a big deal to me. Spray bottles are so much cleaner and easier to use with beard oils. When you are done using the bottle it always has drops of oil down the side and it just ends up being a mess wherever you store it. You could clean the bottle after every use like I have been but you will still get random drips down the side. Then the next time you pick it up it is sticky. Not really enough to knock another star off but it has been annoying me a bit. You see that drip in the picture? That is not water, it is oil from sitting on my shelf.Ingredients list: Castor Seed Oil, Avocado Oil, Hempseed Oil, Safflower Oil, Argan Oil, Jojoba Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance. The Phenoxyethanol is used as a preservative in cosmetic products to prevent bacterial growth and things like that. If you are curious. Looks like a great set of ingredients to me.

Simply the best I’ve tried…and I’ve tried a lot
I do like the fragrance, but the viscosity of this oil is just right for me. It’s very expensive, but a little (a bit more than they recommend) goes a long way. I use it with three different razors at different times and beard growth - Feather DB, Rockwell DB (#4 setting) and Schick Hydro 5. This oil works wonderfully with all three, but I use a slow pace that’s very comfortable with this oil. I don’t use this oil exclusively because of the price, but it’s my favorite shave.

It made a noticeable difference for me.
This product intrigued me when I saw it, so I decided to try it out.I shave much of my head. I leave my eyebrows alone (I had to mention that because I've seen some men that literally shave their entire heads, including eyebrows) and I keep a short goatee. The rest of my beard and hair on my head is shaved about twice a week.I don't condition my goatee, so it's a bit wiry. I started by rubbing some of this oil into the goatee. It did soften the hair noticeably, and my goatee stayed softer for nearly a week.My hair used to grow really fast, but it's slowed down a bit in recent years., If I don't shave every day, I have to let the stubble grow to a certain point. If I wait, say one day, or usually even two days to shave, I'll have bumps all over my throat, and a few on my face. Shaving during this time frame results in nasty cuts all over my throat, some nicks on my jawline, and an occasional cut on my cheeks or upper lip.If I wait for at least three days, I can shave and usually don't cut myself at all. The few cuts that happen are small and minor. If anyone is curious about my equipment, I've used Gilette Mach 3's, Schick Ultra Hydro 5's, a brief tryst with BIC 2 blade razors for my head, and am currently using Harry's five blade shaving razors. I use Edge shaving cream. Harry's might say their blades don't work well for head shaves, but I find they work fine with practice. But I digress! So I decided to put my neck on the block (Pun fully intended) and tried using this oil on a shave that was just under two days old. Much to my surprise, it made a difference!Mind you, it didn't save me completely. I still had three SMALL cuts on my throat, but that was it for my entire face. I very rarely cut my head while shaving, BUT I do have a scalp condition (I think it's Dermatitis? I don't remember) and I live in a dry area, so after I shave my head and dry it off, I get some heavy scalp flaking for about 15 minutes after drying.I suspected this is caused largely because of the lack of humidity, so I shook out a bunch of this oil, smeared it on my head, waited a while then put the cream on and shaved. Much to my further surprise, this oil REALLY reduced the scalp flaking. I just have to rub a bit of flaking off for just under 10 minutes after rinsing and drying my head off.Given the quantity to price, I won't be using this heavily. But I am going to keep a bottle of this oil on hand for times when I feel I need to shave and my previous shave isn't a few days old yet. Oh, and a final note: I'm not a smells and scents kind of guy. I don't do cologne nor do I deliberately shop for deodorants, soaps, body washes, or of course shampoos that advertise alluring scents. I tend to have a strong smell already and I see using strongly scented chemicals as fighting fire with fire. Having said this, I didn't mind the smell of this oil. It is noticeable but not pungent, so it doesn't bother me to smooth my goatee with it or put it on as a pre-shave.

He wasn’t impressed!
His beard is rather new, so I got this thinking it would make it softer or lay down nicely or glisten a bit.Uh - wrong idea! This is pre-shave, so on it goes, shave with foam or cream of choice (or Rockwell product, as advised!).1st problem is that it’s just an open bottle - no sprayer or tip or any kind of dispenser. So pour a bit in your hand while it dribbles down the bottle, then 2nd problem - vigorously wash hands before handling razor since it is an oily oil.3rd problem is it seems unnecessary, at least for him. I guess if the beard is super coarse or wiry, this would help. But my guy has a pretty flat, semi-soft beard so this didn’t have much impact.
