So that’s what I’ve been smelling:)
All these years I had no idea o had been smelling Tonka beans in various body washes or soaps!Made ice cream with them (1 custard base from ‘Bravetart’ cookbook and other with ‘Salt and Straw’ base) and couldn’t be more pleased. It’s such a different flavor than (probably most Americans) I am used to. It’s floral but not flowery, spicy like almost a soft Ceylon cinnamon and vanilla but like a combo of a Tahitian and bourbon vanilla. Very unique!

Smell like horchata
I haven’t cooked with them yet, but I want to address the flavor. I read these are used as a vanilla substitute for a lot of people and I’ve become allergic to vanilla. They don’t smell at all of vanilla but they are lovely. To me, they smell exactly like horchata. They look dark in the middle but not the edges but don’t smell burned. They look a bit like dates but they are hard. The smell is not as strong as vanilla pods but it’s similar in level to nutmeg which makes sense as they are hard beans. I will update once I use them but so far I’m intrigued.

Proper tonka beans
Not gonna ask any questions about why these are for sale just happy they are, they're a great secret ingredient in ice cream/creme brulee, smoothies, breads, etc. Very hard so you just grate them with microplane like nutmeg. Great complex almond-like smell & flavor

Tonka and The Chocolate Factory
Yummy Bean flavor for my chocolate dessert. Second time ordering as my recipe calls for this or vanilla. However, beware. I did not know this until someone else told me. They are illegal in the US as not FDA approved. Google it yourself. Next time I will be using vanilla. Why would there not be a warnign when you buy it?
