Hidden Path
After his last case, consulting pathologist and Buddhist, Dr. Bodhi King, arrives at a secluded monastery for a well-deserved and much-needed silent retreat. This plan ends when he finds the body of unidentified man while out on a walk...Soon, a local police chief, two federal agents, international spies and a scientist are added to the plot of this intriguing read. The third book in this series is every bit as entertaining as the others (with one exception, explained below). I am fascinated with the character, Bodhi King. The new characters for this book were all interesting and I wanted to know everything about them. Descriptions of the surroundings were vivid and crisp, it was easy to visualise the story as I was reading it.The book moved along at a decent pace with enough twists and turns to keep the reader engrossed and turning the pages. The sub-plots were written just as well as the main plot and everything was neatly wrapped up at the end. The last chapter was a nice touch. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and will be looking forward to reading more of this series.Author, Melissa F. Miller writes several other series you should read while waiting for the next Bodhi King Novel: Sasha McCandless Legal Thrillers, Aroostine Higgins Novels and We Sisters Three Mysteries. The one exception: There were a few mistakes in this book. The worst one was "IN the meantime, Chief Clark formally interviewed formal interview about the night the Russian tried to kill her." WHAT?

Great New Story and Continuing Character
Poor Bodhi. The guy just can't catch a break. He just wants to be retired. He keeps finding himself in the middle of mysteries that call upon his abilities as a forensic pathologist. Even escaping to a Buddhist retreat couldn't guarantee him rest. Corporate farming intrigue and international espionage plop right down in the middle of the plains and lead to murder and mayhem. Bodhi struggles to balance his need for quiet contemplation, managing his conflicting feelings and digging for the truth. The inevitability of Bodhi finally finding love seemed a little contrived to me, and sort of "tacked on" at the end. Still, it made me smile.

How intriguing!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this industrial espionage inspired plot.Bohdi 's profession didn't have a lot to do with the solution to the mystery, which was kind of disappointing because I like the pathology angle. However, the agricultural info was fascinating. And I found all the characters interesting, even though I almost felt like there were so many that I didn't get enough time to know each one. Maybe some will be back in future books.

Another great Bodhi novel
The Bodhi King novels are great for a lot of reasons. Bodhi is a well-developed character. He is unique both in how he solves crimes and in how he does it while sticking to his beliefs. And he finds ways to beat his enemies while staying calm and composed.Hidden Party has all the great characteristics of the first two books in this series. But it isn't just a replay of the other books. Melissa Miller spins a great tale by using unique settings and problems Bodhi needs to work in. Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down until it was finished. I would recommend reading it.

A quick read
But an interesting one about corn espionage. The book is short but, consequently, it doesn’t have a lot of extraneous prose. Since Bodhi is Buddhist, you get the feeling that it reflects his serene, clean approach to life. I enjoy Bodhi’s philosophy and way of living. I’ll definitely be reading more of the books in this series and others by Melissa Miller. Hers are well-written, well-edited books with excellent character development.

Corn fields and murder
Starry skies, small towns, deer hunters and a Buddhist retreat of silence. Shell games with cars and espionage. Old fashion Cold War drops and aRussian spy. And in the midst of it all, a calm forensic pathologist trying to figure out what the heck is going on.

Another Excellent Book in this Series!
What more can I say about the Bodhi King series in particular and Melissa’s writing in general!Bodhi travels to a Buddhist monastery in a small Illinois town to take part in a week-long retreat. But he is sidetracked by two murders involving the monastery and his plans for a peaceful retreat go awry. As always Bohdi gets involved in solving these murders thus revealing his deep faith and compassion!Read the whole book—it will be well worth the time!

Be more like Bodhi!
‘Hidden Path’, the third novel in the Bodhi King series, sees our Buddhist pathologist travel to a remote small town in the middle of corn fields, so that he can spend a week on a silent retreat at a Buddhist centre. What could possibly go wrong in a place where everything revolves around corn? Don’t ask - just count the dead bodies: this may not be a story about rival drug cartels, but there are plenty of people getting hurt over the humble kernel. Think agricultural espionage and you’ll get the idea. As usual, the author was inspired by real events, as she explains in the Author’s Note at the end.Three novels into into the series, Bodhi King’s character traits are by now established enough to feel familiar; at the same time, however, Bodhi has also had plenty of opportunities to face difficult decisions, often conflicting with his buddhist beliefs. The constant character development in Miller’s books is one of the reasons why her Sasha McCandless and Aroostine Higgins series are so successful: this is an author who does a great job at making her protagonists’ behaviour becomes less and less predictable as the story goes on, without, however, ever straying too far from the traits that made those same characters so appealing. If a crime novel can ever be a soothing read, the Bodhi series is a case in point: every book makes you want to be a little bit more like Bodhi - calm, reflective, compassionate - whilst at the same time spurring you to keep reading. It’s an odd combination but it absolutely works. If you struggle with your monkey mind and those little books of mindfulness don’t work - maybe what you need on your bedside table is a Bodhi King story.

Can't wait for the next one
Bodhi King is such a sympathetic character - one wants to know how his life will pan out and hopes it's happy! Another excellent story line with a non-too-subtle didactic element. I so much enjoy reading Melissa Miller - she is a master of this genre. I wish she could produce a book a week but she does an inordinate amount of research on each one.
