Q: do I have to wipe or scrub my carpet or can I just vacuum?

The bottle states to spray on let sit 30 seconds, then blot. This is exactly what I did and as I blotted it the stain came up. It did say that for tough stains use a soft bristle brush. No vacuuming required! Worked great for me! You can find this in walmart in the automotive department for around $3.88 a can.

Q: Can anyone tell me if you prefer this product over lifter-1 carpet stain & spot remover. My local store replaced blue magic with lifter-1.

I tried Spot remover, but not Lifter-1. I can definitely say I prefer Blue Magic over Spot remover. Hands down.

Dear RK,I would try it. It has the same ingredients as used by dry cleaners, so you can use it on ties, suits and carpets. I have very good luck with it. I would spray a lot on the stain and then blot it up with a soft bath towel. Then I would probably try 409 carpet cleaner and a water soaked brush to bring up the residue. Again, blot the spot with a towel. I hope this helps! JPM
