It's been a great phone for me.
I'm not sure if some of the poor reviews were meant for a different phone.Battery life seems to be fine. I use it for watching Videos, Netflix and Prime movies but, I just leave it plugged in while watching. Even though I have used it unplugged for all day normal use a few times that I was away from a charging port and I've never seen it drop below around 40%. I don't know. How long is the battery life supposed to be? I mean, really.... You use anything that requires a battery and as long as it's being used or on, it's going to drain the battery.Another 1 star review stated that the phone wouldn't stay awake while using Google maps. I've used Google maps and have never had the phone go to sleep. They mentioned that it was a known issue with this phone. I don't think so....I've never had a problem with the touch screen or swiping. It's very fast and responsive if you ask me.This is a great phone if you ask me. I'm not by all means a super savvy phone user or a gamer or anything else but, for everyday use, it works great for me.Oh yeah, someone mentioned that it's not compatible with Verizon. I'm not sure. My provider uses Verizon towers and it works fine with them. I'd check with your provider before purchasing but, the phone is unlocked.Anyway, hopefully I will have the same results with the one I just ordered for my mother.Over all, this phone is a far cry better than any phone I've owned so far.Oh yeah, it does take great photos but, yes you do have to have the right lighting. Its the same with any camera though. What do you expect with a phone camera, a proffesional quality photo? Really? Even proffesionals have to have the right lighting. There was something else that a reviewer mentioned but, I can't remember for the life of me what ot was. Anyway, I'd never had that issue either.I don't know...hopefully this all helps anyone and I will continue having good fortune with this phone and with the new one I just purchased.

WARNING!...AT&T said after Network change in February they will not support this phone
I purchased this phone because AT&T is changing its network to 4G LTE and eliminating its 3G network so even though my old phone used a version of 4G it would not work on the new AT&T network come February 2022. I received the A42 5G (SM-A426U1/DS) about a week ago, it currently work great on the AT&T network and love it!HOWEVER, an AT&T representative told me today that this phone will also NOT work with the new network change in February 2022! I also checked an AT&T list for 'Supported Unlocked Phones' come February and it stated: A42 5G (SM-A426U1) NOT A42 5G (SM-A426U1/DS) which is this phone (under SETTINGS>ABOUT PHONE).(Note: /DS means it's a Dual SIM phone which I found to be very strange because this is a single SIM as best as I can tell and, to the best of my knowledge, US phone are single SIM while International phone are Dual SIM yet it's suppose to be a US version so...I cannot explain this)So, be advised that if one believes AT&T then this phone will no longer work come February 2020. All I can hope for is the representative was wrong or given bad information...otherwise it's an expensive paperweight. I find it strange but not unlikely that AT&T would force me to purchase a phone directly from them in order to use their network but we'll see.

Good phone, but fingerprints don't read well
I like the phone and think it's generally a good value. Was able to transfer my T-mobile SIM card directly from my old Moto G5 plus and it works fine. However, I'm not really impressed with the fingerprint reader on this Samsung A42 even without a screen protector. When a screen protector is installed, fingerprint reader is difficult to set up through the protector and much of the time it won't read after 5 attempts and I have to put in my pin to unlock the phone.

It works well but with 5G keep it away from your body as much as possible.
Its good, takes good photos with practice but you will need to get a SIM card from your service provider. Taking one out of another cell doesn't work properly.

Best straight forward phone ever.
Just what the doctor ordered. This a simple phone, phone calls and texts, that i use as a work phone. All the other apps that i do not need went to an unnamed folder. Out of sight, out of mind.Responsive, good battery and it takes good pictures for a cellphone.

Value is key!
not the best phone but definitely not the worst. I still use it after multiple years and only after 3 or 4 does it show signs of needing a replacement. has nice features and is big enough to read and run games on. the phone does over heat after running mobile games (league of legends: wild rift, genshin impact)

great phone
I gave 4 stars for 'value for money' because this is more money than I have ever spent for a phone. Although I am very happy with the performance, and battery life is superb. I can charge it at night and listen to music for several hours at work and still have about 70% charge left. It is quite a handful with the case on it, but I need a big screen because of vision problems. The side buttons for volume were something to get used to. I like the fact that you can wake it up by double tapping the screen. Overall I think this phone will suit me for quite some time.
