This is my first Milwaukee tool, and one of the first power tools i’ve bought new. Coming from eBay 12v lithium Makita brushed drills/drivers, of course the jump from brushed to brushless is impressive. Despite loving the fine, instant and precise trigger actuation of my Makita tools, this definitely competes and maybe isn’t exactly as slick, but in use I’ve never noticed a difference. In terms of everyday usability, it’s surprisingly heavier which is the sole reason I went 12v for both lineups but in use I absolutely don’t mind the extra weight. It’s never felt cumbersome or uncomfortable. Now for the elephant in the room, the hydraulic impact mechanism. Not only is it substantially quieter which I love and is honestly the main reason I bought it, but the impacts are both more precise and repeatable between screws. It feels like my old Makita just “goes ham” and makes a racket, this M12 Surge quietly cranks out precise repeatable and powerful blows. It feels more smooth premium and controlled. My favorite features are, in order: the quietness of impacts, selectable speed, one handed bit chuck, and precision/premium feel of using it day to day. I’m really happy Milwaukee is still giving their m12 line some love as not everyone needs the power and increased weight and bulk of 18/20v lineups. Overall this is my new go to for driving screws and such into anything as it’s honestly just satisfying and easy to use. The price is actually pretty fair considering I’m usually a value shopper and don’t buy new. I’m impressed and hope to get a long life out of it. I feel and see no reason why it wouldn’t last, and if it somehow doesn’t I like this enough I’d consider purchasing another if that day comes.

They went beyond. Excellent tool that preforms very nicely. Ordered bare tool and it came with 2 batteries a charger and a carry case. Hard to beat a deal like this one.

I have a Milwaukee 1/2" drill & driver set. The do very little since buying this. I love it. Its powerful, quiet, compact and light. I kept telling myself that my current set was sufficient, but the Surge is my go-to now and the others are my backups.

Great milwaukee tool as usual for milwaukee. Not as much torque as the solid mechanical internal anvil based driver but smoother and much quieter. Small and compact for comfort. It definitely has its place. Battery life is pretty much the same. I can see tool longevity being something to note given the smoother delivery of torque but time is the ultimate test. That being said I use mine every day for work and alot!
