The author does a very good job in breaking the chapters into sections that adress the most important aspects of the known history of Assyria's high and low points.

Insightful
Wars and conflict and the quest for dominance have been the nature of humans. This has been true in all parts of the world throughout history. Most civilized parts of the world have learned to control this tendency and live peacefully. Unfortunately this has not happened in this part of the world. And unlikely to.

It's a small book (not enough pages). It's written well though!
It would be nice to have a book that is more in-depth about the Assyrian Empire and the Assyrians. Then again, Assyria is ancient history so don't expect alot of details.

Great primer for ancient history in Mesopotamia.The author did an excellent job of explaining the details and the facts of a extremely large Empire.
