Warda: A Novel
M**.
A powerful novel with a satisfying ending and rich in history.
This is a beautiful historical novel, packed with incredible history of the left in the Middle East, told through the story of idealistic young men and women. It's surprisingly fast-paced, like a thriller, with strong suspense and romantic elements. As a South Asian, I found myself reading as an outsider, my eyes flying open at how Omanis regard South Asian workers in the Middle East. It was also thrilling to read how each Arab country is different and the relationships of people moving between countries. I found the Warda diary entries a heavier read, but again a surprising insight into a young woman with sexual apetite. It's very satisfying ending, with a powerful, sad message about how revolutions come to an end.
