NOT A GOOD CHOICE FOR TRAVEL PLANNING MAPS OR LOCATING CITES AROUND THE WORLD
It seems like a good atlas is a thing of the past. I was looking for a more detailed atlas with countries and cities clearly shown. This Atlas is more about facts and figures of continents much less about maps. The maps are broken down by continents more than my countries or areas. I have a wonderful Rand McNally atlas from the early 2000's that is falling apart from years of use. The US was broken down state by state and there was more detail of countries around the world. Are you planning a trip to the lovely small country of Slovenia? Only the capital Ljubljana is listed and the country is a speck on the map. You won't find small towns in this atlas. This book is more like a world almanac with facts on climate, population, trade etc.,. Yes, all that information is useful but you will be seriously disappointed if you are looking for maps of US states or countries around the world to plan a trip or locate a town. It can be useful for people who just want general information. Where is Turkey? or where is Angola? But, don't expect more. There is a section on the moon and the solar system but I am not planning a trip to the moon in the near future.

This is a terrible atlas. I bought it for mapping activities my kids (grades 7&5) do as part of their history education. On many occasions I've had to use the internet to show the kids where on the map certain things are, because they are just not included in the book. There is a lot of emphasis on US maps, for better or worse. On a formatting note, the maps do cross the binding with very little spacing (about 1/8 inch) on the center margins so features end up hidden in the fold. The binding cracked very easily, which means the book will start falling apart soon. I regret having purchased this, because I now still have to buy another atlas, probably at an shocking price. I would recommend buying a better atlas, or saving your money and using the internet.

Disappointing Atlas - I'd Honestly Choose Another One Next time.
I have an atlas that's a good twenty-five (25) years old that I like better than this one. Although the country borders and whatnot are all updated, I found the city names and other texts very difficult to read, and the borders on most maps are hard to discern. The details provided for each country are very minimalistic and don't provide a lot of detail. The previous one, which is also from National Geographic had much more interesting details but without cluttering the page with a lot of text.I am disappointed with this atlas and if I had it to do over again, I would choose another one.

It is easy to use and well organized by continent
I have the full-sized, hard-bound National Geographic World Atlas, but it's from 10 years ago, which makes it slightly outdated. It is too bulky for casually looking up locations mentioned in my daily readings and television programs, so this atlas was purchased to fill that intermediate need. It does that very well. It is easy to use and well organized by continent. I am sure that it's impractical to do otherwise, but the maps cover two pages, which means some locations you might want to find are somewhere in the crease and difficult or impossible to locate. It's a small issue, and to be fair I don't know what could be done to resolve it, but still a problem. The maps are good, both physical and political. If you need an easy-to-use resource that isn't prohibitively expensive, I recommend it.

Has lots of good information of various kinds!
The volume is attractive, well written, well organized, and informative within its "concise" title. However, I do wish that the included political maps would have been a bit more comprehensive and show more detail regarding individual countries and their cities rather than consisting of more generalized, regional area maps that just show a few major cities in each country.

Great Book
We kept borrowing an earlier version from our County Library. Now we have our own. We use it for reference often. We purchased the softback cover. We recommend this because the hardback version is very heavy. It would best if made in a loose-leaf version so the book can lie flat while open

Comprehensive and concise
This atlas is well organized and visually worthy of National Geographic. It's important to know that the "concise" part is that the maps, while very informative, are by continent rather than by each country. There are multiple maps for each continent, plus some ocean floor maps--which is awesome--a bit of country data, and even information about the solar system and beyond. If you want detailed maps of each country, though, you may want a less concise version.

A very well compiled world atlas, as only National Geo can do. I like how each continent is separately defined and all the data and information provided about each continent is amazing. Great reference book.

Easy to read, a great way to get to know your planet!
Very pleased with this Atlas. It is bursting with information with very clear well presented maps. The concise version still has all the information needed and is not to bulky or heavy. National Geographic have produced another excellent Atlas.
