Q: Are you sure this holds a Y framed ironing board? Just looking at the picture, I can't see how it would.

Recently purchased this hanger, but for a T-board. However, it will hold the y-frame, although not ideally. The 2 over-the-door hangers are fixed in width by a crosspiece with tack welds. The y-frame would fit in between them and the fact they hangers cannot spread would hold up the board.

Q: My doors are 1 & 2/8" wide. Would the hooks on this be too wide (leave too much of a gap) and result in it moving around too much on the door?

It will be fine. I measured my door, 1 & 3/8", and although there is a gap, I have never had any problems with it moving or scratching the paint on the door.

It is pretty thick. I am going to have to have the closet door I want to hang the ironing board on, planed down so the door will close the hanger on it. But I am in an old house too. My hanger arrived with one of the rubber tips missing which the packer could see since the rack was just in a plastic bag and not in a box.

You might be about an 1/8 inch shy. Overall mine measures a little over 1 3/4 inches, but inside to inside is a little under that. You might be able to bend it a bit or shove it on your door to make it fit - might leave marks on your door though.
