The Substitute for Peat Moss
I love this stuff so much, I am on the subscription plan. I get a bag a month. Square Foot Gardening requires “Mel’s Mix” which is 1/3 compost, 1/3 vermiculite and 1/3 peat moss. Peat moss, being non-renewable unless you want to wait thousands of years, can be substituted with coir. So far the cleanest I’ve found is this Cocogro. It seems spendy at $38 a bag, but I get free shipping with my Prime account. Other places have it a lot cheaper and the shipping is crazy. I realize that the price here includes some shipping however, not $42 per $17 bag. It’s much easier than the bricks and much less mess.

Clean and fine for growing microgreens
I have purchased this to grow my microgreens in. I just planted some now and I'm hoping that it will work well. I will update if it doesn't work well. It is very clean and fine and I like it. I know it is not organic because it is buffered. I spoke with a company which is nice that you can because some of these companies you cannot get ahold of. I do want to know what buffered is. I'm growing microgreens to sell and I would buy more of this if I could explain to people that it is not organic because it's buffered. But I don't know what buffer it is. Can anyone explain that? I can always call the company because they are responsive.I did call the company and they add food grade substances to the coconut coir to keep the pH consistent and where it should be for growing plants.

Feedback re cocogro
This product allowed me to go from "soil" to "soil-less" gardening with an easy transition and a not-steep learning curve. Cocogro has characteristics of a hydro grow process, in that what nutrients you add is what your plants have to live on. You, are really in control with this product, more so than with soil. I added 1 part perlite to 3 parts cocogro so my containers would drain well. I use very good organic (liquid) nutrients and also organic supplements as called for based on species and growth stage, CalMag because coco coil needs it IMO, and I test for pH with a good meter (Hanna HI 98129). The pH value of whatever watering or nutrients you are giving your plants in great part determines how much of each nutrient the plant can absorb. Feeding a good mix of nutrients using water that is out of range makes the plant less likely to benefit from what you are trying to do. That lesson came from hard experience after much frustration with trying to find pH cheaply (e.g. cheap meters). Botanicare CoCoGro seems very consistent (always excellent) and I spend far less time trying to correct deficiency and/or burn than I did with soil. For both my flowers and organic vegetable interests, I have had excellent results with Botanicare COCOGRO. Hopes this helps!

Holds water well. Easy to use, no odor.
The media could not be loaded. Used for my aquaponics garden. Mixed with water and packed around plants for support.

Perfect soil alternative.
i've switched my houseplants to soil-less media and i use this for a chunky mix. it's the perfect fine, fluffy texture and incredibly clean. i like that it's buffered with calcium and magnesium and devoid of salts. will definitely buy again!

Great and clean
I accidentally ordered the wrong stuff since I'm a noob but decided to try a grow in this anyway because it's so freaking clean smells good no bugs or anything. Don't even feel bad about ordering the wrong thing.

Best value Coco you can get
Fluffier than what im used to you may need a heavier load of perlite for this batch, but its pretty good.
