21st Century Tokyo: A Guide to Contemporary Architecture

This is one of the very best books on Tokyo space and architecture. Ethnographically specific, historically informed and theoretically sophisticated. It is eye-opening for the scholar, even if she lives and works in Tokyo, and yet much of it is accessible for an upper-undergraduate audience. Very effective course book.

Anche se in inglese il libro si presenta molto bene, è di buona fattura. E' un testo indirizzato a chi desidera vedere l'architettura contemporanea della città. Sono presenti tanti progetti che sostanzialmente seguono la sequenza della disposizione per quartieri dunque si susseguono tra di loro architetture non troppo distanti tra loro se non adiacenti in alcuni casi. Brevi testi (circa una pagina) e le indicazioni precise del nome dell'edificio, autore, data e soprattutto l'indirizzo. Si, perché mi è capitato di consultare anche altri testi e l'indirizzo in molti casi risulta non rintracciabile. In questo caso la precisione è abbastanza buona. Un ottimo libro orientato ad architetti/ingegneri, è chiaro che non è una guida turistica della città. Il mio voto è di 5 stelle è perché nel suo genere è quasi unica, completa e ha un prezzo accessibile.

This book turned out to be one of the smartest purchases. With this book walking the streets of Ginza and Omotesando is so much more meaningful and interesting. I so wish there was a book like this for every major city. Most educative and beautifully written.

Great book , there are not many updated books about modern architecture in Tokyo which have a travel size and with a decent price tag , this book is one of the few that meets these requirements. It provide useful information for those wishing to explore modern Tokyo and see the main buildings by some of the most important architects today. It also provide social background etc

日本の出版社から出ているのですが、 外国人が作ると当たり前ですが 洋書みたいな雰囲気になりますね 誰でも一度は見たことがある建造物ですが こうして モノクロの静止画像で見てみると 改めて、その建造物のすばらしさが再確認できますね この建造物の製作に携わった人たちに対して 敬意を払い、世界に対して誇りを持ってもいい 建造物集ではないでしょうか？
