When winding, be sure to keep a steady pace. If you overload, or loosen the tension, yarn can get caught and tangle underneath. It's no fun to untangle. It takes a bit of practice to get the tension right to get a whole skein on there. Using chunky yarn is tricky as well. Just take your time, don't stop during winding unless you get a tangle. If you catch quick enough you can wind the opposite direction and save it. It seems like a common issue with most of these winders though, so I believe this one is a good price and gets the job done!

I really liked the product, but small batches of yarn do not work well when being spun. The noise is not an issue for me but I can understand if people may find it a little too loud. It's not too light, but not heavy either. The speed is really good if your yarn is ot tangled, but if it is tangled then it may be choppy. The machine is surprisingly well made despite it being made of plastic. I thought that it would break easily but it showed otherwise. The spins are a little loose if you don't pull the yarn tightly when spinning. But other than that, it forms really good spools. I think the value was reasonable but I wish there were more colors to choose from.

I love this thing. I eventually want a nicer one, but I'm super glad I took the leap and grabbed this one. Its nice and compact for easy storage. Makes quick work of caking up the yarn. THIS IS NOT SUPER STURDY. It won't take years of wear and tear. It is also it a little rickety, but it does the job until you figure out if you want to get into the hobby of choice or not. Does not fit a whole skein of red heart, but I didn't expect it to.

I like this product it's the cheapest I could find with decent reviews and does what it needs to. BUT. If the bottom of your table you attach it to is not completely flat i.e. no rounded curves, it will not stay on for long without readjustments. Also it cannot wind a 5oz skein or 362 yards fully. Maybe 2/3 of the way so it has small capacity. Still getting the hang of it but does the job and nice that the blue version comes with micro crochet hooks

It is perfect. Clips on to my desk. I used it with a few of different sizes of yarn and it worked great with all of them. I no longer have to roll yarn up with my hands.

My old yarn winder got lost in a move so I bought this one thinking it would be just like it. I was wrong. It does not fasten securely to the table, it wobbles. If I let the yarn wind without pressure the ball is so loose the yarn falls off in layers. Since I am usually winding left over yarn into balls the skein is pretty loose and tends to tangle. If I stop winding to fix a wad of yarn coming off the old skein the yarn on this winder starts to unwind as soon as the pressure is reduced!!! Then when I try to rewind it the loose yarn from the ball slips down to the bottom of the cone and wraps around it instead of the ball. The yarn even got caught in the teeth where the cone attaches to the machine! I don't know how you can pick a good yarn winder by looking at the pictures, and I thought the reviews on this one looked ok. I can't recommend this product. Good luck with finding a good one, but be assured this one isn't it.Update: 6/23/23 I got so frustrated with this ball winder I bought a different one from a source that deals only in knitting supplies. Comparing the two I can see this winder has exposed gears and the new one does not. The winding is much tighter and the strands closer together on the new one. Also, the yarn doesn't fall loose from the ball if I have to stop winding, getting caught in the gears like this one does. That is important since it is almost impossible to not have to stop occasionally. So look carefully at the pictures before buying and try to see if there are exposed gears. If there is a picture of a finished ball of yarn look to see if the strands are closer together in the diamond shapes the yarn makes. This one has diamond shapes that are 1" long and 1/2" wide, the new one has smaller diamonds that cross over each other more randomly so they don't line up perfectly on top of each other like this one does. Maybe that's why the layers fall off the ball when the tension is released on the ball made on this winder. I hope that helps choosing a ball winder. Since they all look alike on the surface, and are all pricey, my best recommendation is to buy from a company that specializes in supplies and tools for knitting and crochet.
