Wanted a cast of my parents hands, perfect even down to the details of their rings

You certainly need a video and you need to watch it, although the one I was directed to was in Spanish! However, watching it a few times (yes, more than once) was definitely the right thing to do. And, practice the grip that you want to do, and ensure that you can maintain it for about five minutes. Do it beforehand, and check that things like rings and the like are removed. Anyway, just practice the pose.Give yourself plenty of space, and make sure that you have space to move and are comfortable. The clock is ticking from when you immediately start. The first mixing needs to be done in under 60 seconds, and you need to do it well: use a good whisk that can get into the corners of your container.Another top tip: when putting your hands in ensure that there are no air bubbles and also ensure that you don't touch the container walls, otherwise you won't get the edges correct. And, have a timer running next of you that you can see, and set it going so that you can look at it and then count using it. Timing is very important, and you don't want to be fiddling with it whilst in progress.Mixing the plaster mix was easy, and then I poured it into the mould. Shake from side to side very gently to get it all in and expel any air bubbles.With proper run-through and care, this can look really good. Ours was quite amazing, honestly.Most important thing, and where it can all go wrong, is the first bit of preparing the mould, which involves very quick mixing and then putting your hands in. This needs careful thought and good communication about expectations. It can be done well!Overall, this is a really nice set. This hand moulding kit contains everything that you need (bar water and a jug) to create a hand mould. The detail in the mould is just amazing- from cuticles to the shape of nails. You can look at the mould and tell it is myself and my husbands hands. We have used these types of kits before for various things, so we knew what to expect. It is quite difficult to get the results that you want without practise. My recommendations would be to watch the instruction video several times, and get everything ready prepared before starting. The first stage where you make the mould, the alginate is very fast setting, it takes less than 60 seconds from first mixing, so you have to work very quickly. It is important to practise how you want your hands to look- and jewellery/rings etc. Also make sure that your hands aren’t touching the sides or bottom of the container otherwise you will lose detail.Once this is done and you have removed your hands it is time to pour the plaster in. This takes 12+ hours to set and it is important to follow the directions properly so that you get the right ratio of water to plaster powder.I cannot fault this set at all, it is well put together and packaged nicely. Just prep well!

We opened the container to find the bag inside split and powder was on everything, we managed to make it work just about but we also found the container was too small for adult hands and the instructions poorly translated.

From where my partner bites his nails, to our fingerprints this hand casting kit is so incredibly detailed. I am blown away with it! Me and my partner where each others first loves, 17 years later we are each others true loves and forever soul mates. I can't think of anything more special than this, this is my favourite ornament ever!It didn't come out absolutely perfect but we had fun doing it and the resulting ornament is going to be treasured by us forever. We found the instructions, particularily the video available online to be incredibly valuable and suprisingly we found the whole process straightforward and easy to follow.The ornament is two hands size, of course, it's pretty heavy too! It makes a lovely display piece. I was captivated by how it had captured our fingersprints. I even wore a ring my partner found me whilst we metal detected, another treasured memory. I wasn't expecting the results to be as impressive. I am overwhelmed with joy!

I didn’t even have time for photos - whatever the instructions say, get your hand (or hands or whatever else you’re modelling) into that pinkish mix quick smart. Never mind 60 seconds or whatever, more like 30 - as soon as you can see colour, dip in. Otherwise, if you leave the recommended time, it’s already gone white and looks like papier mache and won’t work. So that’s tip number one.Tip two - use your free hands or get someone else to tap or bang the sides of the bucket while your hands are in there or you’ll get lots of gaps and big air bubbles which will ruin the look.Tip three - this only works for small hands (or small anything else 😂😜) as the bucket level only comes up to you knuckles or just above, so the marketing photos are a bit misleading, unless you’re making a cast of children’s feet or hands. And the plaster mix you pour into the mould isn’t all that much so it’s just not quite enough to fill a huge gap and your cast will only fill half way.Oh and make sure you really do leave it days and days to harden properly, or you’ll end up with mush. All that aside, this is a nice idea and with care, could be done pretty well - I just don’t feel it’s enough for adult hands and should be advertised for casts of children’s hands or feet. At £28 it’s not cheap so you want to get it right. Personally, as our own attempt was a bit of a disaster, I’d be looking for a deeper bucket and a lot more plaster to really get a good cast.
