I think that the Krups F203 Coffee/Spice blender might be more of what you are looking for. I have used one for YEARS to grind spices, seeds, and salt with great results. I clean it after each use by grinding up torn white bread into crumbles and dumping them, leaving the metal cup and plastic cap nice and fresh.

Q: I want to chop apples to small dice but not mush. Will this work?

I have used it to chop apples, nuts, dates, and figs, put on chop and pulse until desired consistency. Do not try to chop so many at once as it will mush some of them before you can get all of them chopped. I used it to chop apples for baking and it did great.
