Run-D.M.C. - Greatest Hits

I'm one of these guys who never listened to Run-D.M.C when I lived in their neighborhood way back when, but now they're cool!

Old school is still the best, a lot better than the do do they produce today

I'll be honest, I don't really know anything about hip hop music. I'm one of those people who used to talk about how much I hated rap, how terrible it is, and how it shouldn't be considered real music, etc, but Run-DMC changed my mind. I'm predominantly a rock fan, and Run-DMC's collaboration with Steven Tyler and Joe Perry from Aerosmith (which is, of course, included on this album) has been one of my favorite songs for years, but I never really gave much thought to listening to Run-DMC on their own because I figured I wouldn't like them. I was wrong. Somehow I got to listening to a few of their hits recently and I really liked them, so I picked up this greatest hits compilation because it seemed cheap for the amount of songs included. And it rocks! I wish I had picked this up earlier because now I kind of want to dig into Run-DMC's catalog deeper. I also think that if you're a hard rock/heavy metal fan, you'll be pleasantly surprised by how much they fuse rock/metal into their music. Maybe you can even convince the hip hop skeptic in your life to enjoy it.As for alternatives, there is also "The Essential Run-DMC" which features twice as many songs, but usually costs about twice as much. This collection is a good value for the price if you just want to "test the waters."

Run DMC hold a special place in my heart since they introduced and convinced me that rap deserves to be considered an aspect of music no different than rock , folk, etc.There materials worked, at the time, because of the "cross over" nature of their songs. They injected a true rock sensibility into their raps. I wish more artists today would utilize guitars and real drums when rapping.When you listen to this, the main theme of the music is FUN. This is roll down the windows, crank it up, sing along, songs.The best songs are the ones that incorporate rock structure and pop culture. "Its Tricky", "Can you rock it like that", "My adidas", "Mary, Mary" and "You be Illin" are great.The highlight is "Walk this Way". They took a song that was essentially a predecessor to rap and made it even more funky. I will challlenge any Aerosmith fan to a debate...if it was not for RUN DMC then Aerosmith would still be an obscure, over the hill group from the 70's. They made Aeromsith cool again! Run DMC's version is an improvement over Aerosmith's. This song is the ultimate party tune.This cd belongs in any essential ROCK cd collection

Terrific greatest hits collection from one of the original rap groups. Brings back good memories and my wife and I are surprised at how many lyrics we still remember. Quality recording at a good price and delivered fast. Would recommend.

Run DMC, what else to say? Godfathers of a lessor, don't think they EVEN 'curse'.... But the lyrical Magic and sound, likely A HUGE inflence on todays modern 'hip hop'(which 95% is CRAP!)... They were GREAT!
