Great sequel to The Dragon in the Library - fab writing, fun characters, magic - highly recommended!
Such a good read with excellent characters and lots of magic and fun.In this story the wild magic is going crazy - apprentice wizard Kit can't control her fireballs, the animals in the park are all talking, a Lesser Nessie in the local lake and the mermaids are revolting. Something weird is going on. To get to the bottom of it Kit and her friends have to travel to Scotland to try to get the mermaids to take Lizzie, the Lesser Nessie, back in their shared loch. Of course, there's a nasty magical reason for the mermaids' issues and the troupe have to work it out before they get sucked into a nasty magical curse. Can they do it? Read the story to find out.Highly recommended.

Magical!
Kit and her friends are flabbergasted by a recent surge of wild magic that is making random things happen. Kit's magic spells are going haywire. Animals in the park are talking to humans, and something magical is bubbling up from the depths of the lake. This new adventure will take Kit all the way to Scotland to solve the mystery of the unpredictable wild magic.I loved this book from start to finish! The characters, the plot, the world-building, the magic; everything is wonderful! The writing style is absolutely hilarious! There are so many cute bits of dialogue and funny scenes that had me laughing.I loved Kit's character! She is bold and reckless and wild. She dares to say the things that other people only think. She sometimes makes mistakes, but she is always working to set things right again.Alita and Josh are bookish and smart. It was so wonderful to see how these three friends interact and support one another. In this second book, we get to see a little more depth in their friendship and some good character development! The black and white illustrations are lovely. Every few pages there are some cute illustrations that really draw the reader into the story and help you to visualize everything you are reading.I can't quite put my finger on why this book is so charming. Every chapter is a delight! I finished the entire book in one day. I could not stop reading. It refreshed my mind. It gave me warm fuzzies in my heart. It made me happy in a deep-down joyful, silly, childish, carefree way. This book made me believe in magic!Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a free and honest review. Sharp, funny adventure with a great message!
Louie Stowell has a real talent for creating funny, exciting, page-turning adventures! The Library book series is witty and filled with sly literary and pop-culture references for the keen-eyed reader. The Monster In The Lake beautifully builds on the story of the young wizard Kit from The Dragon In The Library, expanding on her world, her chaotically developing powers, and her relationships with her best friends Josh and Alita. Like the best shows and books, Kit's friendships are the heart of the story, and Stowell does a fantastic job creating a cast of characters who each have their own skills and desires, and who add to the adventure in their own way. As well as being a whole load of fun, with hilarious dialogue, explosive bouts of wild magic, crazily original creatures, and iconic, diverse characters (all dazzlingly illustrated by Davide Ortu!), this book has an eco-friendly message and demonstrates the importance of being kind to those who are different. I can't recommend this book highly enough!

Fantastic book for young readers
My 7 year old daughter and I absolutely loved this book just as much as the first one, The Dragon in the Library. This is exactly what a book for young readers should be like. It's exciting, full of adventure and has a great storyline. The diverse characters are interesting and you care about them. Highly recommend and we can't wait for the next one in the series!

Kit earns lots of bands on her cape for this one!
Very excited to read the next installment of adventures for Kit, Josh and Alita. We had lots of fun reading this out loud deciding how merfolk should sound. The addition of the mobile library was a genius idea. Great writing, lots of fun and some intriguing magic!

Kids and their parents will love it.
We enjoyed it just as much as the first one. Amazing how Louie Stowell manages to pack adventure, humor, and positive messages all in one book. It’s rare to find a children’s book that both my daughter and I throughly enjoy. The characters are some of my favorite I’ve ever read in a children’s book!
