Yes, font size 12 text is legible on strips. I wouldn’t recommend this for business confidential document destruction.

Q: Is there any way to make this shredder fit a 16 inch wide basket?

It only expands to about 14 1/2”. You would need to put some type of sturdy support across the basket. I turned my 16” wide basket sideways and the shredder fits perfectly across the narrower side.

Approx. 6" X 11 1/4"Be aware that the notches in the unit will only accommodate a 1/2 lip on the basket, to sit properly.Not the most powerful unit on the market but, plenty for my needs.
