Much better
I bought this to replace the OEM Faria speedometer (pitot tube based) on my Four Winns. The old gauge worked just fine, but I got tired of cleaning out the pitot at the Volvo Penta SX drive. Our lake has lots of red clay and debris, so it was constantly getting clogged. I was a bit worried at first that it wouldn't work unless I get get a separate sensor mounted in full view of the sky... but, it actually works pretty good right in the dash. I hooked up all 4 wires (ground, constant 12v, ignition 12v, and backlight 12v). It picked up the signal faster than I expected. This is *way* better than having no speedometer due to my getting tired of cleaning out the old pitot entrance. You will notice however, it has a bit of lag and moves in 1mph increments (something to get used to), but I have to say, I much prefer this over what I had! I checked its accuracy against Waze on my phone and it matches pretty good. I'm a happy customer so far and it doesnt look that much different than the OEM gauges. I would have to tell someone I swapped it before they noticed, lol.

Stopped working
The install went pretty well. Good size, good looking replacement for my original odometer. It worked the first time out, no problem. The second time it did the sweep and stopped working. I rebooted it by powering the boat on/off once. It started working. The third time it did the sweep, then nothing. Rebooted, sweep, drive around, nothing. Same for the fourth time, did the sweep, drive around, nothing. Reboot, sweep, drive around, nothing. I am returning it.8/1/2023 Update: It is hard to tell what company is selling you these products. The vendor "General Electronics" charged me a $40 restocking fee for selling me this defective product. I returned all the parts, the packaging, the paperwork, everything. Amazon is great, until it is not. I should be able to charge the vendor $40 for my labor when I installed, and uninstalled this device. Now I have to do it again.

Faria-Beede Chesapeake Gauges
Love the Classic Look of these gauges. My existing gauges were mismatched, so I purchased these, when rigging my DIY Tunnel hull. This Speedo operates through GPS, so I didn’t have to run a pitot tube. Easy installation, and very pleased with the quality!!!

Works like it should
Wires up myself. Not to difficult. It did not find the satellites in my garage after I wired it up. First time on the water it worked well. I compared it to phone gps app and was accurate

Great speedo, bad instructions.
The quality of this gps speedo is impressive. I give it 4 stars because the instructions are misleading. The manual says that upon power up, the dial will move from 0 to 60 and back to 5mph until satellites have been acquired. Well I installed and power it up. There is a humming (sounds like stepper motor is stuck) for 4 seconds, then nothing. So I thought it was broken as it did not behave like the instructions. I called the Faria tech support and that said it sounds like it is broken. I then call Faria to return the item and got in touch with another support person who said, "let it sit powered up for 5 minutes to see if it Acquires the satellite. So I powered it up, humming for 4 seconds, nothing for 10 seconds, and then the dial swept from 0 to 60 and back to 5mph. After a few seconds dropped to 0. Works perfectly. The instructions should be updated so the user is not scared when they hear a buzzing sound on power up. Thats why I give it 4 stars.

It works
I assume it's correct. It does make a weird noise upon key on, move all the way around, and then sit at 5 mph until it acquires the satellite connection. That would be an amazing fact to know before trying to use it and thinking it was broken. I can't assure it's accurate, but for me, looks were more what I needed it for. It's on a pontoon boat, and I really don't care if I set any water speed records. It does change speed as I do, so for me it's a good product.

Worked great, for exactly one year...
Install was easy and performed exactly as we hoped, however here we are exactly one year later (to the month) from install and it's a dead unit. Tested all cabling to confirm no power or fuse issues and all checks out exactly as it should (and did at the time of install) however there is no sign of life.

exact fit works good
I installed this on my 1996 sea ray 190 and it fits just like factory. This unit must have 1, 12 volt to battery connection, 1 12 volt ignition connection and 1 ground connection to work. The gauge will buzz then do a sweep to 60 mph and back down to 5 mph. once it finds satellite it will drop to 0 mph and be ready to go. GPS is the best and only way to go.
