Valeo Adjustable Leather Jump Rope With Molded Handles And Foam Grips, 9.5-Foot Long, VA4514BR

I've had the Valeo thick black rope for years now and it's done me well. I wanted to try a leather rope as ppl talked all kinds of stuff about it. So far I'm not sure how big a difference I notice. The other rope was solid - slowly stretching out over time and needing to be shortened and eventually twisting. I'm hoping that doesn't happen with this one, but if it does (after years), that's fine as it's cheap.Jump ropes are one of my favorite exercise tools as it's a good workout, you can set your own pace, and I take it traveling with me everywhere.I don't do double-unders, so this review does not help Crossfitters.

I like this jumprope. It is easy to adjust, and it doesnt hold the coil shape when removing it from your bag. My only complaint is the foam part of the handle needs to be a little bigger. My hand swallows it up and I have to leave my pinky hanging off. I do have big sized hands though. I would buy again, and I do tell my friends to buy it.

So, I had the plastic jump rope previous to this one and it left welts because it would twist during jump roping and hit my calves. This one does a LOT less twisting. The leather is pretty cheap, though and hasn't broken in yet, so it still has a little twisting, but for the price this is pretty solid.

I seem to wear out jump ropes like crazy, probably because I use one almost every day on concrete. I ordered this one cause it was cheap and I was hoping a leather rope would hold up better than a plastic one. My mistake. I've only been using it for like, 3 days and I can already see the leather is wearing away where it scrapes against the ground--:(Initially, I gave this rope 3 stars cause I figured it was my fault for using it on concrete--but then I realized that it doesn't turn smoothly. Also, be forewarned it is only going to be adjustable once or twice bc you have to adjust it by crimping a metal crimp on the end of the rope (crimp and uncrimp that thing too much and it'll no longer hold).I was surprised that it's also a bit harder to use since it doesn't seem much lighter than my older plastic speed rope  Nike Speed Rope  (which is sadly, held together by duck tape) but then that's a good thing right? I can't jump nearly as fast but I DO seem to get a slightly better work out (seems like my upper body has to work slightly harder with this one). When it wears out I guess I'll have to try one of those awful beaded ropes next (I'm already dreading the noise it'll make).

I believe that this jump rope is targeted more towards adults. My seven year old Granddaughter had "a quality jump rope" on her Christmas wish list and I took a chance on this one. When I received it, I was not quite sure if it would work for her, as the "rope" was leather and kind of stiff. On Christmas, her Mother adjusted it to her height, per the instructions, and she was soon happily jumping. My Granddaughter says that this jump rope is "so much easier to use than the kids ones". Amazon's handling of this order was, as usual, fast and accurate.

Arrived with the chord installed and tightly folded. As a result there are a lot of kinks in the leather to work out but it still works just fine. The leather is a little stiffer and dryer than I'd expected but it seems to be holding up to daily use. The handles are comfortable and the chord rotates nicely in them. Seems to be as good as any of the other leather jump ropes used were I work out and its cheaper than many. No regrets on this purchase.

Came out the package very dry and stiff and it has an overwhelming chemical odor to it...seriously it's STRONG. Doesn't have the same weight it as other leather ropes I've had before therefore it doesn't swing fast enough. Maybe if I oil it it will help with that and the odor. If you're looking for a fast moving rope, this isn't it, get a wire rope instead. I'll oil it and post another review later.

I have purchased 2 of these jump ropes. The first one was for my gymnast daughter. I was able to easily adjust the rope for her height by crimping the extra piece of metal in the ropes handle and then cutting off the extra length. The rope was dry, but fine after I oiled it with some glove oil. The first jump rope now resides in her gymnastics locker at the gym for her warm ups. I ordered a second rope a couple of weeks later to keep at home. This rope is actually missing the extra pieces of metal for adjusting, and therefore I am not able to adjust it as is and it is unusable due to the extra length. This is very frustrating as we were pleased with the originally purchased rope. So if you are looking for an "adjustable" leather rope, you may or may not have good luck with this product. Purchase at your own risk.
