Loved every picture and every page!
What a fantastically gorgeous book! I have had the great privilege of taking one of Maryanne's classes in person and not only is she an incredibly talented and skilled weaver, she is also a wonderful teacher and author. She not only teaches you the basics of weaving but how to draw inspiration from the world around you and how to turn it into your own brand of art. This is a perfect beginners' guide to the art of weaving, giving a fantastic overview on the tools, the fibers, and stiches of weaving as well as a particularly informative section on color design. If you are looking for a step by step instruction on how to completely mimic one of her unique amazing designs like a color by numbers book, this is not the book for you. But if you are looking for a great guide on trying the art of weaving, getting inspired by gorgeous pictures and experimenting with your own versions of woven art, then look no further, because this is perfection. What a great jumping off point!

Fun Introduction to Weaving
I like this book--it's imaginative and playful and a fun introduction to weavingBut it's only an introduction. If you're looking for inspiration, you need to go to the books from Hippiedom, particularly "Needleweaving," by Esther Warner Dendel, and "Weaving Off-Loom," by Dona Z. Meilach and Lee Erlin Snow. Plus Sarita R. Rainey published a new edition of "Weaving Without a Loom" which is still in print. For the big thrills, there's "Beyond Craft: The Art Fabric," by Mildred Constantine and Jack Lenor Larsen and, more recently, "Fiber: Sculpture, 1960 - Present," ed. by Jenelle Porter. There really are only 2 ways to weave--either follow someone else's projects or learn the basics and fly off on your own.I choose to fly.Yee-hah!

Inspired by the variety of projects
This is a beautiful publication from a very inspiring fiber artist. Unlike many of the other reviewers who seem disappointed by the lack of wall hanging examples within the book, I was pleasantly surprised and very inspired by the variety of projects. When you think "modern weaving" your mind goes straight to wall tapestries, which you can find examples of everywhere these days. In this book, Maryanne inspires you to think beyond the wall and apply the art form to a variety of projects around your home. I'm anxious to weave my own stool cover and maybe even a rug.Perhaps the book description needs modification to reflect the content of the book more accurately, but regardless, I'm quite happy with and inspired by the content of this book.

What a beautiful book!
I will agree with the other reviewer that I was expecting more techniques to further my "wall hanging" style weavings and was a little disappointed to find that wasn't the case. Having said that, it's a beautiful book and Maryanne is such a sweet woman. I'm drawing inspiration from the book and many of the techniques that I don't know how to do yet. There are different types of wall hangings and there's instructions on how to weave with circles, the dream catcher is a project I'm really looking forward to doing. She obviously spent a lot of time on this book and it's her true passion to share with others. I wouldn't label this book as rudely as "juvenile projects". Once you accept that this book won't be teaching you how to make her style of detailed wall hangings (take one of her amazing classes if you can!) and try out one of the fun projects, I think you'll be happy. Weaving isn't just for wall hangings and this is a fun way to try it out.

Great for getting Creative with Woven Art!
I must say I was ecstatic when I found out the famous Maryanne Moodie was publishing a Weaver's Guide. I immediately pre-ordered "On the Loom" through Amazon. I do love that she incorporated lots of different ways to use your woven works in other creative ways other than just wall hangings. Though I was definitely still expecting to see a lot more wall hanging tutorials as well, there were only 3 included. I also noticed that quiet a few of the projects in the book were not even "Weaving/ Woven" projects at all. I would have greatly appreciated this book a lot more if it had included step by step photos showing you how to complete the tutorials. Overall, I'm still happy to have the book & look forward to creating some of the projects! Thanks Maryanne!!

Make sure you understand what this book actually is!
I unfortunately agree with many others who have commented that they were disappointed by the lack of content for weaving wall hangings. I follow Maryanne Moodie on her various social media and find her work to be so inspiring and beautiful. I've been hoping she expands her class offerings to more cities in the US so that I would have a chance to take a class from her. However, living in the midwest, I doubt that will happen anytime soon so I thought this book would be a great alternative. However, I only found the first 15 pages or so of this book pertained to wall hangings, and thus to be of interest to me personally. I thought it was just me who had the misunderstanding that this book went into further detail and had fuller tutorials and descriptions but after reading the various reviews, it is clear that others had the same expectations that I had. If you are aware that only a very small portion of this book pertains to wall weavings and it instead walks you through various other types of weaving, then it is a good book. The pictures are gorgeous and it's fun to see what other things you can do with this art. But if you're looking to get a detailed tutorial or any sort of tips and tricks outside of the basic weaving techniques, it is best to look elsewhere.
