Great drawing surface
I love pastelmat, the surface is like a very fine sand paper which allows me to blend my pencils smoothly. it also allows me to produce fine detailed pieces of work. I use it with artist quality pencils and with pan pastels. This drawing is called Bee-ing Spoonfed and you can see that I was able to create smooth blending on the spoon and fine details on the bee. The pastelmat also gives you the change to apply lighter colours over darks, something that can be difficult on smoother papers.

Fantastic for colour pencil work.
I bought this for the first time as I’d heard good things. I wasn’t disappointed. While it is not the cheapest it is extremely good for colour pencil work. It will take a surprising amount of layers and I love being able to use light colours over dark. It has a very slightly rough surface to touch (a little like the finest sandpaper) but you can easily achieve excellent detail in your work. It does wear pencils down quite quickly due to the rough surface but it is a small price to pay for such a wonderful drawing surface.

Great For Coloured Pencils Too
I’ve been using Clairefontaine PastelMat for coloured pencil drawings and it works really well as I can put loads of layers of coloured pencil without clogging up the tooth of the paper.

Small but as awesome as all Pastelmat.
I really should have read the measurements properly as these are quite small. Somewhere around A5 size. But still great.I have only used the Pastelmat board before so I was pleasantly surprised by the thickness of the sheets. Unfortunately one piece has a scratch on it but it's not the seller's fault and I am quite sure that Pan Pastels will cover it, just about. The dark colours are lovely and the one piece I have used was a joy, just like the Pastelmat board I have previously used. There's something about the surface that makes me want to paint. If you aren't using Pastelmat you are missing out.

This is the must have paper for any pastel artist.
Having just received a delivery of my first ever pastel pencils I initially tried them on multi media paper and struggled to get the pastel to stick to it, I was limited to layering. So whilst I initially thought that Pastelmat was expensive I ordered some to try.And WOW absolutely blown away by it. The Pastelmat holds the pastel and you get much less dust than multi media paper. You can lay layer upon layer of pastel down and the pastels just seem to stick to the paper. This was only my second ever pastel drawing, but I think I am totally sold on the medium and I am now ordering more of this product. You have to try it if you draw with pastels.
