Great reissue!!!
I don’t use compression very much, but when I do, I crave that Dyna-Comp sound from the 70s, and this is it. I’ve had a couple boutique compressors over the years, and they have been excellent at doing their thing, but none of them quite nail this sound, for better or worse. The controls are very touchy—once you find your perfect setting, a slight nudge of either knob will either make your sound seem to disappear, or, suddenly get way too loud. But, when you find that sweet spot, it’s squeeze-heaven.

Looks used and doesn’t work
If you’re going to spend good money on a pedal, go to sweet water or from the source directly. My pedal arrived with scratches and chips like it’s been used for quite some time. The compressor wasn’t attached either, which caused the pedal so make a clanky sound. Putting this aside, when I went to use it, it didn’t work. The light came on but the sound cut out of my amp. I’m returning.

I haven’t tried another compressor
I have not tried another compressor pedal… because this one does what it’s suppose to do and is quite low noise.

Look no further for vintage comp needs
I have purchased this used from guitar center but am trying to give back to Amazon reviews since I rely on them so much myself...That said this pedal is awesome but it only is what it is. I have the tc hypergravity which is like the opposite of this. It has 4 knobs, three modes, and the ability to go into the software and edit what each knob does. Basically that comp can be anything and if it cant, you can probably program it to do that. But it is noisy and does not play well with my distortion sometimes. This mxr is just a two knob vintage comp and that is all it is! If that is all you want BUY THIS NOW. It is pretty quiet and clean and the only parameter of the comp you have control of is the sensitivity. It sounds GREAT thru the range of the knob. Plugged this into a mxr cae wah with clean boost, into a ts9, secret freq, pitch fork set to gentle octave, plimsoul with maxed out second stage, and a Keely super mod workstation with phaser and reverb. Most of the time I noticed no noise added by the pedal. When the comp is dimed I think it compresses some of the normally very quiet guitar interference so that's more of a guitar shielding issue than an issue with this great comp. The tc comp has a vintage mode that I compared with the mxr. I have to say TC did a great job with that mode and it sounds fantastic. Especially because you have control of the attack and wet/dry blend so you can really tweak your sounds. But it still sounded digital or stuio quality. The dyna comp sounds PURE VINTAGE comp pedal rather than digital or studio comp.
