Compact, Well-made, & Functional
I wanted a radio that is small, durable and reliable. I was choosing between this, and the Panasonic RF-P50d Pocket. I noticed both models have the headphone jack just below the volume wheel, which means they both require a somewhat unwieldy grip to adjust volume while the headphone jack is in use. That aside, it's a pretty stellar radio, and seems to be notably smaller than other big brand radios, like Sony, and Panasonic. This Philips radio is about an inch slimmer (width), and half-an-inch shorter than the Panasonic radio I mentioned earlier. -Build Quality: Powered by two AAA batteries. It seems to be quite durable with a nice weight to it. The radio appears to be made of mostly ABS plastic, with a metallic speaker grill over the face. The lens of the slider information panel appears to be some kind of hard plastic (rather than glass). No LEDs present anywhere on the system. Battery door slides off, but I would be careful with the spokes on it, as they feel a bit thin. I recommend opening the battery door slowly, and with care. -Functionality (Good): I currently live near the heart of a large city, and have no problems picking up lots of channels on the FM side. AM is a bit barren, but perhaps the building I am in makes the signal in that spectrum poor. It's inconsequential for me since my favorite stations are on the FM side. Volume slider (& power-on switch) works without any issues. Tuning slider, and AM/FM band switch also work without any hiccups. The antenna extends to about a foot, but I have found I don't even need to pull it out to get a good signal for my preferred FM stations. Only gripes: -Headphone jack placement (gets in the way of the volume slider when in use): it should have been near the top of the device (either above the tuning slider & volume slider, or anywhere along the same side as the antenna) -No belt loop strap/clip Good price for a quality, pocket friendly radio. If you want something similar-to or smaller-than Sony, and Panasonic's pocket radios then I highly recommend this Philips radio!

Classic Design and Small Form Factor
I really dig this fun little pocket radio. PROS: • Classic 80s/90s-style design and form factor • Philips brand name • Super compact and pocketable • Nice build quality for a $15 radio CONS: • Speaker is a bit tinny • An odd quirk with the volume dial – for some reason rolling the wheel UP turns the volume down/rolling the wheel DOWN turns the volume up. I keep having to catch myself and unlearn this simple intuition.

Terrible non-working radio!!!!
Turn on and NOTHING!!!!! Total piece of junk!!!!!! It was a gift that I bought early therefore when I gifted to friend it was past time that it was returnable. So I am out my entire purchase amount! This is a good portable radio
Reception is better than I expected for such a small portable radio. Design is nice, it looks good. Small and light weight, very simple to operate. Tuning works well, considering it's a simple rotary dial. You need to supply your own earphones, which you may already have. I like it.

Is it turned on ?
Volume is so low, it's hard to tell if this radio is actually turned on. I expected better from a company like Phillips. Even at half price, customers should look elsewhere.

Excellent radio using the two small batteries AAA. In fact I have bought and used different Phillips radios and they were all very good. However, this one is the best because the knurled volume wheel has been very well designed and made. At the moment, I have more than a dozen pocket radios that are working. But over the years, I had more of these radios than hairs on my head. Most of my previous radios were discarded because of damage to the volume wheel through wear and dropping on the floor. I only use 2 AM stations BBC Radio 5 and Talksport and they are always loud and clear. FM reception is also good but moving around you may need to use the aerial. The radio plus batteries is very light and small. One criticism is the location of the earphone jack point at the top rather than on the side of the radio in order to fit the pocket easier without much bending of the wire. I previously bought this radio from elsewhere at a much lower price (but yet to use). However, I wanted to make sure that I have another spare one as it became discontinued. I surely recommend it.
