At the Mountains of Madness Vol. 2

Somewhere between Frazetta and Norman Rockwell. Brilliant.
Francois Baranger is to H.P.Lovecraft who Frank Frazetta was to Robert E. Howard. The definitive artist. He captures the nuances of 1930's and the epic cosmic horrors of Earths ancient past in the mysterious Antarctica. The human explorers of Lovecrafts most famous work are absolutely dwarfed by the immensity of the ancient alien cyclopean city that the artist creates. A perfect pairing of grandiose visuals and prose. The scenes of ancient aliens journeying to Earth thru the cosmos are stunning. A must for graphic novel fans and especially those who appreciate Lovecraft. My only complaint is that this work isn't in a complete volume. My hope is that Francois Baranger continues this Lovecrartian journey and all his work is gathered in a single omnibus. I'd love to see his take on Robert E. Howard's Conan of Cimmeria. "Tower of the Elephant " would be a great story to start. The quality of the book itself is top notch. It's spine is sewn in and the pages turn and stay perfectly. Little , if any art is lost on the page image closest to the spine. Very readable print that stands out but doesn't overpower the artwork. Exellent paper quality as well. The title and intro pages are a reproduced "pulp" style paper in image to give the work an old feel and pay tribute to the pulp magazines in which Lovecrafts stories appeared in. The oversized format of the book is difficult to stow on a book shelf but it's a must to showcase the power of the art. Can't recommend At the Mountains of Madness Vol.1& 2 highly enough.

Awesome book and _this_ volume arrived intact
Warning to buyers, I bought both volumes on the same day at the same time. They arrived in two different boxes. This volume was carefully packed and in good shape. The other was not and had a giant tear in the dust jacket. Sounds like about 50/50 from Amazon. Buy from someone other than Amazon, but buy... Beautifully rendered book!

Gorgeous. Worth the wait!
I was eagerly anticipating this volume as a follow up to volume 1 of this book, and was absolutely not disappointed. The artwork is simply beautiful and brings the story to life like no other version I have seen. If you are a fan of Lovecraft stories, you owe it to yourself to add this to your collection. If there is any drawback to this book, and the other two Lovecraft works by Francois Baranger, it is that the books themselves are very large, (much more so than other titles in my collection), and have to be shelved separately.

Beautiful art for a classic story
I've never been much of a Lovecraft fan but the idea of an illustrated edition of At the Mountains of Madness intrigued me enough to buy this book along with Vol. 1. I was right. The paintings really enhance the story (which, let's be honest, can drag on a bit). The books are beautifully printed on heavy paper and are large enough to really appreciate the artist's work. Strongly recommend to any reader with a taste for old-school horror fiction.

This visually captures Lovecraft like nothing else
I have a lot of material related to Lovecraft, one of my favorite authors--everything from RPGs, to board games, to art books, etc. Nothing captures what I think is the true aesthetic of what I believe Lovecraft probably intended like this book and its companion books by the same artist. I absolutely do not regret picking up the three that are available and look forward to upcoming releases.

The only reason you shouldn’t read this is you haven’t read volume 1
If you’ve not read at the mountains of madness, go do that. Rn. Go order volume 1. Read it. Directly after, wait for it, read volume 2. Phenomenal story and the artwork is actually breathtaking in this edition.

Stunning!
This book is fantastic! Baranger's art is stunning and the large format really lets it shine.AZ sorted out their inventory problem and is now sending the correct book. I wish they would add in some padding to the package, though. Fortunately, mine was undamaged.

Torn Dusk Jacket and Dented Corners
The dust jackets on both Volumes I and II are torn in multiple areas and the corners are dented. No plastic or paper cover to make sure the book doesn’t get wet or dirtied. Quite disappointed with this especially since I bought it as a gift. While the inside pages weren’t damaged, the cover certainly looked like it wasn’t handled well.

brilliant
Free League does it again. The artist and layout of these book and it's prequel (and COC) are simply exceptional and capture the mood (madness) of the story just so well. Truly wonderful product worth every penny.
