Check, the look is funky and you'll think the mouse will be wireless even without the mouse pad, bot the case, take the mouse pad away, and you need to plug the mouse in, and for traveling the mouse pad is and absolute waste of space...the mouse itself is great looking..

Good replica of the original
Not a bad mouse, lots of comments from other reviewers that it is not as good quality as the original, tend to agree. BUT, it's still a strong mouse for gaming in my opinion. Happy I have a new RAT and no issues so far.

Not same quality as previous R.A.T. 8 by Mad Catz.
I have the previous R.A.T. 8 model made under the original Mad Catz brand before it went bankrupt and resurrected. The new company is using the same tooling to build the mice, but not all the material is the same. The grippy "soft/satin" surface is far thinner and far less effective on this new mouse. So you will feel your sweat and lose grip on the mouse far sooner than you would previously. I ended up swapping out the right-side grips with one from the old mouse. I may look at replacing the buttons too.Really unfortunate that you would build a premium mouse, for such a high price, then cheap out on the material used in order to save 5 cents. If you can get your hands on the original R.A.T. 8 model for the same price, do it.Subjectively, the grip on the old mouse is about 4x higher. Tested by pressing down and rubbing finger back/forth repeatedly.

The New R.A.T. 7
My last two mice were both R.A.T. 7 variants, the original and later Contagion. Both served me well through their years of use, with the Contagion holding up for at least 7 years and now showing a fair bit of wear.I liked them so much, it was only natural for me to want another after my Contagion's clicker finally started failing. At first glance, the 8-Plus just a 7 with RGB, cause it basically is. It also has 2.5x the dpi of the Contagion.Quality wise, it looks to be similar quality but feels only marginally cheaper. It also comes with only 3 weights instead of 5 and doesn't even include the weight cartridge or accessory case.In actual use though, it feels very similar to my old Contagion. On board profiles are definitely a nice change over having to run the app and manually activate my profile every boot, now you only have to launch the profile manager when you want to change something. But that 16000dpi... I found it completely unusable to the point it was hilarious. I'll stick with 5000 for desktop use with reduced in-game settings. If you like the old R.A.T. 7, this is as close as you'll get without finding old stock. We'll see how it holds up, but for now it's certainly a competitor for my favourite mouse.

Mad Catz has fallen from grace... read on.
I have been a VERY loyal and avid customer of Mad Catz for what feels (and very well might be) over a decade. Although I've owned and been happy with various of their products and service over the years, the one product line that has stood out for me over the years is the R.A.T. line of mice. I game a LOT, so over the years I have put the paces through 2 R.A.T.5 mice, 1 R.A.T.7 and finally the R.A.T.8 which I am writing this review on. Of all those devices, the second R.A.T.5 mouse was free. Why? Because over 2 years after working the first one HARD, the only thing to go was the optical sensor, so I emailed Mad Catz knowing well that the mouse was out of warranty and I asked if there was anything I could do to repair it, since I loved it. They didn't offer parts costs. They didn't offer repair costs. They simply shipped me a brand new R.A.T.5 knowing full well that it was out of warranty, and didn't even ask for proof of purchase or anything. They just saw a dedicated and loyal customer and decided to help the guy out. I never forgot this. It is the sole reason I ONLY bought R.A.T. mice moving forward (well, that and they have always been solid products). Fast forward 6 or so years. My last mouse started acting up so I thought nothing of it, it served me well. I immediately bought the R.A.T.8, continuing to stick with what works and continue to be a loyal customer of the Mad Catz of years past. The mouse lasted maybe a month or 2 before it started: - Drifting on its own (Sensor picking up movement when the mouse is stationary), and; - Losing hold when dragging with L button down (Say dragging an icon from left of screen to right, it often would drop it half way before letting go of the button, then immediately re-initialize, picking up something else or drawing a selection rectangle)So naturally I contacted Mad Catz with proof of purchase and details on the failure(s), ready to RMA. After maybe a month of back and forth via email of me providing proof, none of it was good enough, they simply HAD to have actual an actual video recording of it happening (the drifting). Since the very nature of it was random and VERY short lived (it would drift a few inches across the screen then stop) it was impossible to get my phone up and into the camera app fast enough to catch it. I said this to them, but they persisted. They literally REFUSED to lift a finger if I couldn't magically craft up a video clip for them. I gave up. I'm an adult, I can afford to give up the few dollars I paid for the device, a small price to pay to cut ties with a company who doesn't have their customers in mind anymore. That was when I realized that the Mad Catz I had been so loyal to in the past didn't exist anymore. I can only assume that corporate ownership must have changed or internal leadership changed, affecting the quality of service, forcing company focus onto profit as opposed to product and customer satisfaction. Sad really, I'll miss them.I can't give a low enough star rating. My ratings usually reflect on product quality and if applicable, customer support. Both were nonexistent in this case. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere, as I currently am. (Considering the Razer DeathAdder or Logitech G502, now).
