Goodbye Mr. Chips blu ray A CLASSIC
I love old movies transferred into blu ray!! The material used in these CLASSIC movies, to me, ensures they will last for a long time!! Hopefully the transference is a complete movie and with no ‘hick-ups’ when viewing a movie? One CLASSIC that had a ‘hick-up’ is ‘Lost Horizon’ by Frank Capra made in 1937! There is a film scene that is missing but the audio survived and added to the final restoration to keep the movie theme going! The scene in question is when Ronald Coleman’s character meets the High Lama!In the restoration of ‘Goodbye Mr. Chips’ the restoration was 100 per cent complete and will be viewed by many unborn generations of an OLD ART in cinema, A TREASURE!! The restoration is so complete that it seems the movie was made in the resent past!! There is a magic feeling that makes all the characters are interwoven by their respect the younger generation boys and women have for Mr. Chips in the two decades between the wars!! When war erupts the the young boys go off to war and there is LOSS that is felt by Mr. Chips and all of the characters!! The movie is truly touching in the emotions that move the audience to tears!! This makes this CLASSIC a truly treasure to see!!I see these precious movies as a TIME CAPSULE in time of their making! To see how life was in clothing, mannerisms of these actors and especially the DIRECTOR himself FRANK CAPRA!!

It's in my top 100
This is the story of a professor who teaches from his younger years until his death in the same boys school as the story follows the prallel lives of his students and their progeny as they go through the school and the teacher, Donat, is revered by his students. It is a warm hearted movie for all ages. The screenwriting and acting is excellent. The pacing is moderate, and definitely not a ho-hummer.

A memoir to the past
There is a story told that when The Academy Awards chose "Goodbye Mr. Chips" as the Motion Picture of The Year it got the goat of Clark Gable who had a leading role in "Gone With The Wind" and whose picture lost out to "Goodbye Mr.Chips". I think that may prove to be a very useful if not credible reason why to watch this motion picture. It has a distinction of having bettered "Gone with the Wind" and enabled many the pleasure of knowing how it may have been. The focus seems to be somewhat confined to a Boys School and whose time there extends for many years. It was as dramatic among the many dramatic storytelling events that "GoodBye Mr.Chips" portrayed however when those who had attended the school went off to war, the First World War, it got the attention of Mr. Chips. The news came back that a couple of the boys had lost there lives on the Field of Battle with Mr.Chips knowing these boys well even very well. there was a real sense of sadness with the announcement, it was a very good scene. There is something else to consider, families sent their sons and their sons sent their sons so that there was true knowledge merely by a boys' name. The knowledge in matters of legacy rub off and a real heartwarming relation evolves. A similar experience was had, that is at a good Boys School by many including the likes of Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill. There is much to care for in this motion picture though there seems to be something of a short shift extended to Greer Garson as Mr. Chips soulmate. I noticed that and the picture lost as it were some of its feeling with the rather uncaring ability the both Mr.Chips and the story itself tells of when the Greer Garson character dies. This film to be certain is an engaging joining of the past and the present. This is of course relatively speaking as family names and matters of honor are truly present. There is good reason to recommend this film because, like an emotion, an emotion has a life of its own with "Goodbye Mr.Chips" entering into such a category. It is a pleasure to tell of having watched this film that this film having bested "Gone With The Wind" can be said to have stood the test of time. It might be suggested that these are matters of the heart and indeed that might be very true."Goodbye Mr. Chips "is indeed a heartwarming film.

Finally… wonderfully restored and on Blu-Ray!
I needn’t review the movie. It’s a classic. It’s cinematic comfort food. It’s Robert Donat masterfully playing the most lovable prep school teacher who ever lived; and Greer Garson the most loving, tragic wife on film. Paul Henreid the good-natured friend and matchmaker. The always dependable John Mills. The problem is — or rather, was — there wasn’t an acceptable print of “Chips” around to watch. At long last, here it is. Quibble over this or that detail, but all told this is a beautiful restoration of the film. Some ‘extras’ would be nice, but come on. This is the ‘Warner Archive’ edition. Surely you weren’t expecting ‘extras.’Just buy it. Watch it. Don’t forget to keep a hankie close at hand!
