Beautiful and informative
A beautifully illustrated children's book from Puffin books, the One Day Elsewhere series highlights several events that changed the 20th century. My Father's Courage is a story based on Gandhi and the Salt March, in which a young boy Aslam hopes his father's freedom after he is arrested for disobeying the British authorities by harvesting salt, for Bapu, Gandhiji was to arrive for his salt march.A delightful way to teach young kids about important historical events without overwhelming them with too much information and at the same time providing them enough knowledge about the situations of the past and an insight into them. Narrated with the eyes of a child these picture books tell the essentials of historical events from the 20th century, translated from the French.

History Illustrated
‘My Father’s Courage’ is a story of Aslam who helplessly witnesses his father’s arrest: he disobeyed the British authorities by harvesting salt, which was very heavily taxed. The boy is assailed with doubt. Why did his father break the law? Why doesn’t sea salt belong to everyone? When he learns that Gandhi is going to be marching through his village of Jalalpore, Aslam feels hopeful. He is the only one who can oppose the authorities and, maybe, free his father. The rest of the story (Dandi March) is history. This series is all about presenting the important historical events in the form of a story for kids to read and understand. This book is also the same. The famous non-violent movement of Dandi March has been explained through Aslam’s story. It is a pretty book with some awesome colourful illustrations. It is not only a history lesson but also a moral teaching of standing up for one’s right without causing violence and harm to others.Recommend this book to all the children and may be parents too who can read this to their children. I am also going to gift this book to a nephew now who will love to read such a beautiful book.

Hope , Strength & a brief past of today's India📌
" One day, Aslam , the British will leave. I hope we see that day together. I hope you have a better life than I do "- My Father's Courage ( One Day Elsewhere Series )Author : Anne Loyer & Chloé FraserTranslated by Nakashi ChowdhuryA book that gives us hope that a better time will come , strength to fight for your rights and a brief past of today's India with an eloquent manner. An apt read for your child.Based on Gandhi's Salt March in 1930, where Aslam a young boy helplessly watched his father getting arrested by British Police just that he disobeyed by harvesting salt. But doesn't the sea belong to everyone ?How can his own father break the law when he's the one who taught him the importance of the rules ?" Stay straight my son. On your feet in your head. Then no one can find fault with you "He felt lost. The book grabs the naked truth of British India in a striking way for the young minds. The portrayal of characters is short yet impactful. A perfectly blended reality with a thorough mix of information and detailed description from the young eyes. The book also showcases that caste religious discrimination is not beyond humanity. And unity is what the human needs. Solidarity means more than our religious beliefs.Lastly, I can't help but to talk about the illustration work that has enhanced the book so beautifully and dramatically. My Ratings : 5/5
