people who make cameras are in the business to sell them. if you put the lamp and the lense behind the same glass, the range is limited. i extend the range of my cameras with these, up to about 300 or so feet. being in a forest, i cant get better range.they are 110, but could be powered with solar and a battery, 12V 1amp, so the distance to set them is up to you. while you can see a red glow if you look at them, the light is invisible to the human eye.i will be buying more, they work very well.

I had this on 24/7 for 5 years in the attic and it finally died. Will buy again.EDIT - still working - adapter died. Ordered a SmoTecQ 12v 2A and it lives again.

The Univivi 6 LED IR illuminator provided enhanced night vision visibility to my Lorex PTZ LLNZ32P4. It is a great improvement from what used to be near pitch-black to now usable video surveillance night vision capability. The only thing that I could say is a con is that the light is focused on a centrally lit area leaving the sides with zero illumination.I have read about complaints where this starts to develop blinking issues in about 8 months to a year and some waterproofing issues. To mitigate this issue, I have proactively added some precautionary fail-safe such as plugging my illuminator into a smart switch that will completely power it off on a schedule during the day. I also applied a silicon seal on the mating surfaces of the illuminator to make it 100% weather/waterproof.I will come back to this review to update after a year.

I ordered this for my job in a research lab. One of our studies has portions that are in complete darkness. Our current cameras (older ceiling mounted security cameras) could not capture footage during the dark segments of our protocol. We needed something that could amplify the visibility without emitting any light source into the room. Our solution was to face the illuminator toward the ceiling so the participant can't see the red hue of the bulbs, but we still get a perfect view of them while the room is dark during the research appointment. This worked perfectly and provided a clear crisp image in blackout conditions. The attached image is in a room that's nearly pitch black.
