An amazing story for you
I first bought a juiceman juicer about thirty years ago and this book came with it. It has all the information you need to make healing juices for almost any health problem if you read it right. There are recipes for juice drinks but they are not really important to follow. What is important to follow is the information about each vegetable and what effects it has and you can create a drink for whatever you are targeting healthwise. When a podiatrist was unable to effect any improvement in a badly infected toe that was dark purple for a month, he told me he would have to amputate it soon. I saw jay on tv and went to a health food store and spoke to the owner. I asked him if juicing was just a bunch of bull to sell machines or was it for real. He told me he had a clerk who was insulin dependent for diabetes and he juiced green beans for a year and went off insulin completely. I bought the juicer and read jays information. I made a pitcher full and drank it. I used non california carrots as a base so it was very bitter to drink instead of sweet but i drank it anyway. In two days the dark purple toe turned pink! No amputation or further doctor attention needed.Juicing is a discipline and unfortunately i fell out of it. Now...some thirty years later i was in a critical health crisis. I had been out of work due to a severe multiple kidney stone problem for ten weeks when they discovered colon cancer. It was caught in time just before it was to break out to my liver. The transverse colon had to be removed and the surgeon told me i could be out of work for up to three months. I would lose everything. My house and car included. Seven years earlier i had two major abdominal surgeries and due to a diabetic condition i needed four months to heal up. With this cancer operation i feared the worst. I remembered jay and the information in this book but i no longer had it. I got this one from amazon and reread it. Determined to not lose everything and stop any reoccurance of the cancer i bought a norwalk juicer and made some juice to boost my immune system prior to surgery. The impact of the juice was so powerful due to the extra garlic i used that i had to sit down for a couple of hours as i could not stand up safely. After the surgery the doctor advised me not to juice and i was too afraid to disobey him. All three doctors i had used were totally in the dark about juicing and its effects on the body. I waited about nine days after surgery and had no healing progress at all. I was in a bind and had to get back to work so i did a batch after researching the vegetables again. When i drank it slowly i had intense spasms develop and i feared my insides would tear apart so i went into a prone position and they eased a bit then i fell asleep for the first time without heavy duty pain killers. I awoke eleven hours later to find an intense itching all over my belly! The swelling was down over fifty percent and the pain was down by half too! I was afraid to juice the next day due to the intense spasms but did it on the third day anyway. Again i had the spasms and fell asleep for about twelve hours and awoke to a blessing. The pain was 95% gone as was almost all of the swelling. A small hole was healed already and i had almost no difficulty getting up and down at all. I went to work after the weekend was over. What took four months previously without juicing took only three days with juicing! Everybody who went through the previous recovery nightmare with me was stunned at this amazing event.Juicing is a powerful thing when it comes to your health. It is more powerful than doctors or medicines sometimes. This book is the place to start and maintaining the discipline is the rest of it. This story is true and it is not my only positive results that i experienced but i shortened it up. Read and follow jays advice my friends and live a healthier existence.P.S. i always made a habit to drink a maximum amount of vegetable juice meaning as much as i could. I dont want you to get the impression i was drinking an eight ounce glass. Whether it was a deciding factor or not i cannot tell you but more than likely it was. You cannot overdose on it and it is all good so why not?

Oldie but goodie
I think this is still one of the best juicing books out there, and it's one of the first ever written on the subject. The author starting selling juice machines fifty years ago and he's still going strong. His recipes are great and I make these for myself or friends every day.I like the juices with cucumber for that summer swelling you get in your feet and legs. The addition of ginger to many recipes makes my sore joints feel better. A glass of this juice first thing in the morning is more stimulating than coffee and gives a real lift on the way to work. My favorite mixture is base of apple-carrot-celery-ginger with a quarter of a beet and a half a lemon and a handful of parsley. Two other tricks: find your favorite recipe in this book and freeze the juice in ice pop molds. You can have a frozen treat with no added sugar and it's very refreshing on those hot summer afternoons. Also good for kids who want frozen treats and you don't want them swilling sugar all day. A sneaky way to get vegetable vitamins into them. The second trick is to use up vegetables that need to be finished up in your refrigerator. If those carrots or apples have been there for a bit, juice them to save them from spoiling. Freeze any excess juice in quart freezer bags. Not ideal as juice should be drunk immediately to get the enzyme benefts, but certainly convenient and freezing stows down any degradation or fermentation.

Better Late Than Never!
After 40 yrs of dieting (& gaining 200 lbs! in the process) this book has given me hope that nutrition is a major key to optimum health and weight. Jay helps us understand how most of our nutrients come from fresh, living plants not cooked (dead) food. It's not a big mystery now why I gained so much weight while dieting - my body was starving for nutrition among other things. Jay explains in detail why cooked food has very little nutritional value and how our bodies get so much more "bang for our buck" out of fresh fruits and vegetables. Great nutritional information as well as tasty juice and pulp recipes. Very informative - reviews most fruits and vegetables, their nutritional values and health promoting properties. Well-written, easy to understand, and packed with enthusiasm and encouragement. Keep up the great work Jay!

Great recipes, nerve-wracking font.
I purchased this book along with my Juiceman Super-duper Juice Monster Stainless Steel thing, a step up from my old plastic Juiceman carrot-stained thing. This book has excellent recipes and contains a wealth of information about nutritional value of fruits and vegetables. It's not precisely an enjoyable read, but it's very informative and a great thing to have in the kitchen before you go to the shops or if you've forgotten precisely how many carrots or parsnips are required for your recipe. There are two things that bother me about this book. The font for his recipes makes me want to pull my hair out. It's probably an attempt to make it feel more homey, but it's really not a pretty thing. The other thing that bothers me is that it I feel the book should have come free with the juicer which sounds as if it's powered by a diesel engine, gives my dog a case of nervous twitches, and is a right pain in the bum to clean.Other than that, it's brilliant. Although, the Juiceman might want to give his eyebrows a good trim.I guess that means there are three things that bother me.
