Blitzkrieg: From the Rise of Hitler to the Fall of Dunkirk (Penguin Modern Classics)

A history that reads like a novel
The author is best known for his thrillers (Ipcress Files, etc.), but he's actually a very good historian who writes engagingly, making this (and his companion books "Fighter" and "Blood, Tears, and Folly") read as easily as one of his novels. The book covers a wealth of small details not found in many larger histories, which adds to the enjoyment.

Highly readable account of the period from rise of the Nazis to the fall of France
Highly readable account of the fall of France and causes behind it. The author includes a well-written description of the rise of Nazism and of Hitler, which was much appreciated. The whole book was written in conversational style, making it easy to read and follow.A well-researched book, all the causative factors behind the Battle of France and its outcome appear to have been considered and then explained in a clear and easy to understand way.The only downside is there are no interviews with eyewitnesses at the time. This turns out to be a minor quibble because the book is so well-written otherwise.

Excellent and very readable .
I realize Mr Deighton hasn't written for a little while and so I can only hope he would put pen to paper on another one of these fascinating views of recent world changing events.Definitely in my top ten of my huge reading list and from a writer I consistently enjoy to read.

A must read classic
I like the way Len Deighton's narratives and style of writing its not as dry as I feared. This book is an excellent classic for those who wanted to find out and learn about the history of the Battle of France 1940 aka the Fall of France or as Liddell Hart called it the Second Battle of Sedan. Deighton talks about Guderian a lot in here and the revolutionary Blitzkrieg, the German and French equipments and strategic tactical history of each country in their details analysis. Then he went on to explain the reasons and factors for the French defeats and why the were defeated (which I am not going to spoil it here for you) and on the other hand gave a reason on why the German won as Deighton described the events chronologically.Without realizing it I am quickly coming to the end of reading this already its an enjoyable and jolly good book for me. But don't take my word for it you have to read it to appreciate this classic.

Great introduction to WW2
Great book for the novice or person starting to get into the second world war. More in depth treatments out there but this one was both entertaining as well as informative.
