GOOD BOOK
Don't expect precise instructions in what parts to buy or where or how to tune your engine to drive you to a 6 sec. 1/4 mile, all that depends too much in your particular setup, this book provides guidelines in the B-series engine aftermarket parts and how they behave in their different configurations, some tips on how to tune them and some ideas on some crazy engine builds, comprehensive, interesting and well written.

This was EXACTLY what I needed for before I started rebuilding my 6th Gen Civic (1996 HX).
This was EXACTLY what I was needing for my rebuild. I was going to upgrade anyway, and now I know about several good, simple options that will improve things, and it may have inspired me to see about boosting my build-intent to a 400-ish hp turbocharged design! We'll see. It compares cams, no-fancy-cams, SUPER-fancy-cams, and even mentions what happens when you screw up the timing on the valves enough. Hint: You replace the pistons AND valves. Tune With Caution. Always, but especially with aggressive cams.It mentions piston sizes and what differences they make. It mentions intakes and how the default B-series P30 intake is surprisingly-capable of running up to the highest end of upgrades. Turbos, superchargers, different TYPES of superchargers (I'd no idea about anything but 'a supercharger' before this!), cams, pistons, effects of lighter/stronger lifters and tons more besides....this book is something a newbie B-series upgrader should read, at least IMO! It helped me a lot and was both a sensible and interesting read.Reading this wasn't a hard 'technical slog' at all...though the book has graphs and dyno data and stat-charts, the 'written parts' were /written/ as if to allow people with some automotive-repair skills to be able to understand it, and I did. I'm not an ASE certified person, I simply 'do my own repairs' on my Honda...and this book made sense, as well as teaching me a lot of stuff.Sadly, here I am gushing about it and I don't see any more available for sale...but if any poor buggers are trying to do a B-swap on their Honda after me, well...get this book from somewhere!

Exactly as Titled: Dyno-Tested Combos
This is one of the better, up-to-date books on B-motors out there. The author takes a neat approach to comparing apples-for-apples combinations of performance parts that a Honda enthusiast may put on the street. He dispells some myths, and points out where to look for incremental performance gains. There are dyno results for subtle part changes as well as drastic top-end swaps. He doesn't play favorites with aftermarket brands, and when he has a preference (like Skunk2's cams) it is well substantiated and compared/tested alongside competing products. There is not a lot of info on building for power or tuning if you are a hot-rod n00b, just straight side-by-side comparisons of test combinations accompanied by well-written and readable descriptions of what is being tested and how the combo affected the result. I wish I could dock a half star for the scope being limited to testing, but that is what the book is really about. If the author threw in some juicy tips and tricks for engine assembly and tuning, it would a the definitive five-star reference!

Great read!!
Great read!!This is great for any Honda enthusiast who wants to learn a little about what options are out there for build and the affects of modern bolt on options and mild builds. The author is obviously well versed in this area.
