Use it correctly!
Easy to use and works great if you use it properly. Unfortunately, the accompanying instructions could stand improvement. The indicator is adjustable so that you can make it more accurate, but I found the device is just fine from the factory.I use a thermometer to make home made yogurt. I bought this to replace a "candy thermometer" - a liquid alcohol type with a "bulb" at the bottom that worked fine, but for some reason, water from steam got inside and it became unusable. However, I initially used both thermometers to see if the Euro Cuisine was accurate. There was a three degree difference where the Euro read too low. Not worth adjusting. And which of the two was more accurate? I'm not sure you can use a candy thermometer as a standard. If you don't use the Euro properly, you will run into all types of problems and the result is that this great device will get trashed in the user reviews.1. Remove the red plastic probe protector before you place the thermometer in hot milk. (It is amusing that this has to be specified!)2. Place the thermometer properly in the saucepan. This is not a bulb type alcohol thermometer. I don't know how it works or what is inside the slender temperature measuring probe, but I do know how to position it. Use the clip to hook it to the side of the saucepan, then make sure the bottom of the probe tip is hitting the bottom of the pan. The probe will be at an angle, not positioned to that it points straight down. I would never think of having the bulb of a candy thermometer in contact with the bottom of the pan, but this is how the Euro is designed.3. The liquid in the pan must cover a sufficient length of the probe. You can not stick a half inch of the probe into liquid and expect to get an accurate reading. I do not know what the minimum coverage is, but when I use it, about 3/4 is covered by the hot milk. One reviewed said, "It's 40 degrees off!" Well, yeah, and I can guess why!The dial is small and so are the tiny temperature increments on the dial. The trick is that you do not need the tiny increments. This thermometer has two bold markings: a red max temperature mark and a green mark at 110 degrees. Use the red mark to heat the milk for yogurt and then cool the milk down to the green mark. That's when you add the yogurt starter powder. Some reviewers have said the red mark is positioned at too low a temperature (179 degrees), and they wish it were higher. But just what is the best temperature for preparing milk for yogurt? Google shows a range from 170 to 200 degrees. I had been using 185, but be aware that there advantages to using a lower temperature. I decided to use the red and green marks and the yogurt came out perfectly.I really don't know how long to heat the milk, but I keep the needle on the red line for 20 minutes.I have decided to add the following to all my reviews:Beware! Some "reviewers" will trash a product for no reason simply because they are paid to do so or because they sell competitive products. Other "reviewers" will give products - that they have never seen and never used - glowing 5 star ratings - for a fee. Some honest reviewers do not understand what a product is for or how to use it and will trash a product simply because they are just plain dumb. And the biggest of companies have been heavily fined for hiring an army of “reviewers” to review their products.

Temps was accurate BUT hard to read & Clip On doesn't work well
My yogurt comes out so the one I received gave accurate tempatures.Would give 2.5 stars if I could.Pros:1) ACCURATE TEMPERATURE READINGS2) ideal yogurt temperature or milk temperature is Marked, making Prep & cooking easier3) clip to attach to pot is easy to clip BUT see CONS 3-4CON:1) very tiny face, like size of a quarter, so very hard to read2) typeface is smallm so very hard to read3) PROBE is short, so doesn't reach milk sometimes OR doesn't reach it while CLIPPED ONTO POT, making you have to hold thermometer over milk with your hand, which makes clip on feature useless!4) clip-on turns or rotates, wh8ch sometimes make PROBE slant upwards and OUT of milk. This makes you have to hold thermometer over milk with your hand, which makes clip on feature useless!5) red cover for PROBE doesn't FIT and falls off.6) not good buy with shipping fees CONCLUSION:If shipping costs brings total to $10, might as well spend the extra $3-7 for a better, amazon prime thermometer!Even though having the yogurt 180°F MARKING is a nice feature, next time, to save money & CLUTTER, I`ll buy a universal thermometer for BAKING & MEAT with a much bigger head, bigger font, and longer probe!

Hard to see but accurate reading
Mixed feelings. I originally put in a cancellation on this item because it is so small I have difficulty seeing it. The seller agreed to the return but I would have had to pay the return fee which I was not willing to do. I ordered another item with the intent of throwing this item away. My new item came and was large enough for me to see without difficulty. I started using this Euro Cuisine item along with the other one just to see if there was a difference. Of course the major difference is that I had to be pretty close to this item to see it. It seemed to me that other than this, the two were pretty close.I was making a batch of yogurt and noticed something very strange in the reading of the new thermometer I had purchased. I pulled out the Euro Cuisine and got an accurate reading. In the mean time my other thermometer was in a world of its own and doing some pretty crazy stuff. I ended up keeping the Euro Cuisine and returning the second item. So lucky I had not tossed the Euro Cuisine thermometer as planned. My batch of yogurt would have been ruined. It is still hard to see but I am getting used to it and I like it because it is accurate..

Great Brand. Not so GreatThermometer.
I bought the Euro Cuisine yogurt maker and strainer so when I decided I wanted a thermometer I assumed buying the Euro Cuisine brand would be a no brainer. Not so fast.My purchasing methodology is straightforward. I buy the highest rated product within my price range. This little item fit the bill. I have spent a small fortune on Amazon and am rarely disappointed. As I tore open the shipping envelope, I became more and more excited with every packing bubble that burst. And then my excitement turned to disappointment when I actually held the product.See the photo I uploaded. The face of the thermometer is no bigger than a nickle. My eyesight is great but the photo in the photo in the ad is misleading. I did read reviews that were critical of the size of the dial but, to me, that didn't jive with the photo. I just assumed these reviewers were daft old farts like me.I still think Euro Cuisine is a great brand and am already eyeballing their higher capacity yogurt makers. They just have the wrong licensee manufacturing their thermos.
