The Bible in 52 Weeks for Men: A Yearlong Bible Study

My husband loved reading this
I purchased this for my husband last year, on October 21. He finished it exactly one year later. I don’t think he answered the questions the book provides. Instead, he used his study Bible and other resources as he read difficult passages or had questions. He feels excited about reading through the Bible in one year, as he’s never done it before, and he says he learned so much from the commentaries and other resources he read along the way.

Hubby loves it so far
Hubby completed week one and loves that it’s easier of a read and seems achievable to commit to. We all have busy lives and a 52 week study seems a bit daunting to commit to. The chapters are only a few pages with some reading from the Bible verses of the week. It’s an easier break down. My husband is a christian man and has read the Bible front to back but I love that this book does a full breakdown and then offers what I call a “think about it page” of questions (the study questions) to fully process what the verses of the week were about and how they relate to your current life.

Be Warned -- The author wrote the book to people who have already read the Bible! Not for beginners!
This book isn't bad, per se. Some of the weekly review sections are a bit trite, but I suppose it may be tough coming up with 52 different lessons. What I really don't like, though, is that this book is written to people who have already read the Bible and are intimately familiar with the Christian experience. Long story short, the Holy Spirit inspired me to reach out the 4 other guys to do a year long reading plan. One was a solid Christian, one was an adrift "be nice and you'll go to heaven" believer, one was an "I haven't really thought about religion since I moved out of my mom's house 15 years ago" "experiencer," and I'm pretty sure the fourth was an agnostic AT BEST. Now, these guys have all grown in their faith and understanding in the course of our reading, but that's thanks to the Holy Spirity and the Word of the Lord. The reading guide was asking some pretty advanced and abstract things within the first couple of weeks of us starting, and it left the members of our group who we were trying to reach the hardest feeling like the few people at a big gathering who aren't in on the inside joke. For instance, within the first 2 weeks, before we were even done with Genesis, we got the following 2 questions from the guide [paraphrasing]: 1. The events of the Old Testament are best viewed through the lens of the New Testament. What learnings from the New Testament help put what you read into perspective? and 2. How does a personal relationship with Christ bring total satisfaction in life? So, needless to say, for the 3 members of our group who had never read the Bible or been saved, the answer to these and many similar questions was a resounding "I have no clue!" We had them write that in, and explained that it would be of great value to come back to those questions after the year has gone by and they have fully read the Word, but for those out there seeking to reach some of the Lord's children who have not yet taken up the call to give their lives to Him, this is NOT a book for beginners.

Very interactive
Really nice study. Fun color graphics. Helpful commentary/devotional with some really thought provoking commentary to process the Scripture. The study guide questions helped me to examine my heart and how the Scripture impacted me. Overall I would highly recommend this study.

A helpful walk-through of the Bible
This book does a good job of walking through the Bible. The author provides a two-page reflection on specific passages each week. The reflections are taken from the author's life experiences. He also provides questions to encourage reflections on the readings. The book can be used as a group study or individually. Although it is branded as a study for men, I didn't find most of the author's reflections to be specifically targeted at men. Overall, the book does a great job of giving some context to the biblical passages as well as helpful information for relating biblical themes to life. I recommend this book for anyone who would like a Bible reading plan that will help them grow in their understanding and love of Scripture. (I was provided with an advanced copy and asked to review this book).

Practical for young and old.
Josh Laxton provides a helpful resource for men of all ages with this Bible study. I found it to be encouraging, thought-provoking, and a resource I can gladly commend to others.

A Bible reading plan w/ a devotional!!
Love the layout of this devotion by Josh Laxton. It reminds me of a catechism devotional I've taken all four of my kids thru. The reading plan includes a study that helps one think about the text in light the entire redemption story. Will be great to use in accountability groups, which men need so much these days. I highly recommend it!!
