Excellent book for new & seasoned Magicians / Witches
This textbook, (because it is the size of one & it is FULL of information!) is a great addition to you collection!I took quite a few pictures to give new buyers a good idea of what is in it. There is text and pictures which make it fun to read. I am reading it from cover to cover, following along in the lessons, as recommended, but not required. It already has taught me a ton about magick & I'm still in the first few chapters. I have skimmed ahead though and I can see that there is ALOT more to go. If you are interested in learning NON DOGMATIC magick, this is the book for you.I have about 30 books that have to do with witchcraft and have read even more than that. As they all bring their own ideas, information & knowledge to the table, not to be substituted by another -- but with that said, this is definitely the largest book I have seen and is filled with a ton of fundamental information about magick. I can't say it's the best, because they are all have their own individual substance & should be created equal..but it's up there!!A must have!! 5 stars from me!!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Essential Reading
This is the book that I recommend to anybody who tells me they’re interested in Ceremonial Magick and don’t know where to start. I am a practicing Thelemite, I got this when I wasn’t a beginner and still I learned a lot; everybody can benefit from this book. The span of contents covered is massive. Kraig’s writing is down to earth and refreshingly humble. He also is not a member of the school of thought that Magick is to be psychologized (The “it’s all in your head crowd. That’s incorrect and dangerous.), but he also is very knowledgeable on psychology itself. This is Magick rooted in Qabalah though, so if that is not your focus of study then your experience with this book will likely be different than mine. If that is the type of occultism you practice, and Kraig expects you to actually practice, then this book is a must buy. Six out of five stars.

My Favorite Book in High Magick
I was introduced to this book when I was 17 years old, 35 years ago, which completely changed my life for the better. Anyone who wishes to start on the path as a Magickian, this is the book to have in your library.

Modern magick is a great text
I'm a PhD student in molecular biology from UCLA and recently got interested in occult studies. After learning that DMK was an UCLA alumni I got to pick this up. This is my first magick book along with other one "initiation into hermetics" from Franz Barton. Previously, I have also read about occult philosophy from the "teaching of ages" from Manly, "outline of occult science" from Steiner, "the eternal fruit of knowledge" from Poole. Modern magick is a great text since DMK is always really personal and sometimes feel like he is talking to you and eagerly sharing his magick experience with you. I believe what he said is real but sometimes quite frightening. For example, he described his supernatural experience when he can sometimes see "nasties" or some of his students heard voice calling out names soon after initiation. He also described that grey magick can potentially turn black magick and how to void this using tarot divination. However, since the "correct" version of tarot has not been revealed by the Hermetic order, wouldn't that make prediction risky? Not to mention the risk of direct evocation of spirits. While I have nothing against magick, I do feel the art is sometimes quite dangerous. I guess I am happy to be just an arm-chair magician/occultist for now. Nevertheless, I still highly recommend this text for any beginner who want to understand to the practice magick and this is a great down-to-earth guide to magick. Five stars!!

Excellent start - but stay away from the Kindle version
I highly recommend this book. It's a great start for anyone interested in "high" magic, and will keep you moving along without moving too quickly.Having said that, however - buy the book. Stay away from the Kindle version. The rendering of images and tables is just thrown into the text, making it hard to read and use in a meaningful way, and hard to follow. Just buy the book and save yourself confusion and frustration.

Big book, lots of great information
So far my readings of this book is going well, it is instructional and the authors personality comes through as someone I could ask anything to and have a great conversation with. The print is large and easy to read. To save time order the Golden Dawn Tarot deck when you order the book. The first section has you order one of 3 suggested decks. The book did arrive damaged, the upper left hand corner was smashed and deformed every top corner. The book is still readable. I imagine this damaged happened in shipping.

The seminal classic has impossibly gotten better!
I have owned both prior editions of this book (sadly I lost the first edition), and while the second edition was an improvement over the first, I bought it out of necessity and wouldn't have necessarily recommended it to someone who owned the first edition. That is not the case here. The third edition is amazingly well done and a clear improvement over the second edition. The larger format allows for more content with fewer pages (obviously necessary, as it is still a weighty tome), and serves as a better demonstration of the magnitude of this book: a watershed moment in modern ceremonial magick. Better still is the improved layout, illustrations and diagrams. These are displayed alongside the content they pertain to when possible (not possible in the older editions due to the smaller format), and have been completely redone wherever possible. The content itself has also been expanded upon and clarified, and an entirely new (albeit breif) lesson on NLP, Chaos Magick, and Patrick Dunn's Postmodern Magick was added. This book is simply the most essential guide for neophyte magicians, and a critically valuable resource for experienced ones.
