Attention Grabbing
My 8-year-old son dislikes chapter books but will read these any day!! The content grabs his attention and keeps him hooked. I think it also helps that these stories are inspired by true events (some that have occurred in my lifetime, like Hurricane Katrina), and he likes to ask me questions about them. We also will look up pictures of what the event really looked like or do other research. He really loves these books!

Great stories for 8 to 13 year olds.
The "I Survived" series of books have been a huge hit with my Grandkids. Both my grandson 8 and my granddaughter 12 love them. Informative, exciting, educational and well written. Lot's of action, heart and adventure. What more can you ask for. My grandson does not like to read but he will read these and Diary of a Wimpy Kid over and over again. My granddaughter loves to read and will re-read this series as well as the "Cementary Road " series by Kate Klise. Both get an A+ from me.Enjoy

Historical Fiction
I purchased this book because the student that I am tutoring is curious about Hurricane Katrina. I already have the "What Was Hurricane Katrina" and wanted to help him write a comparison/contrast essay about the two accounts one nonfiction and one historical fiction. The book grabs the readers attention in the first sentence. The author uses strong verbs creating imagery and excitement. It appeals to reluctant readers because it holds the reader's attention throughout the book, and it is a manageable length. Definitely would appeal to readers fourth through eight grade. Of course, that depends on the reading level of the reader.

Moving story
This is a well told story. The emotions and descriptions were vivid and believable. It was easy to visualize the things Barry was experiencing.

Great Book
My son learned a lot about Hurricane Katrina. He read about 4 books from this series while being in Florida. I purchased this book as a summer read and I will tell you this, he enjoyed it because he is 9 years old and it was told from a child's perspective. He continues to ask me for them when he sees one that he hasn't read. Along with this for the summer he read Battle of Gettysburg, 1863; The Shark Attack of 1916; and I survived the Attacks of September 11th. This one really hit home because we live in Manhattan and I wanted him to understand what really happened. He decided to put the books in order and I thought that was a great idea. So would I recommend theses book?????? D E F I N I T E L Y !!!!!!!!

Great children's book
I'm reading this to my year 4 class (8 and 9 year olds) as it links to our topic of natural disasters. I prepped them with pictures of New Orleans and levies so that they could visualise the setting. It has good pace and language level and the children can easily identify with the main character. Also, it's not too long, so we should be able to finish it easily within the term.
