Exciting for my 9 year old!

Almost unknown history story seldom if ever told in school history classes of a teenage girl’s heroic 40 mile horseback ride in the middle of the night during a storm to call to arms American patriots at the beginning of the American Revolution. Paul Revere had nothing on this girl but George Washington recognized her contribution to the war effort.

This is a great story for kids about the bravery of a young girl! My kids (6 and 9) really enjoyed it.

Love this cool adventure story of the patriotic journey of a young girl. Great read for adults with kids.

My 7 year-old son and I have exhausted the Magic Tree House books and I remembered that I really liked biographies when I was his age. I searched until I found the "On My Own" series and we have both been really happy with them. My two favorite things about them are the art, which is lovely, and the fact that most of them are stories that are less common than the usual ones the kids read. I had not heard the story of Sybil Ludington and I really enjoyed it. Last night we read about Ellen and William Craft -- another story I had never heard and another very good story. The quality of these books all around is outstanding. I'm so glad we found them.

Although this book probably to written for readers ages 10 - 14, it reads well. More important is the history it contains. As more research is done in the experience and escapades of women, throughout America's history, the more respect for female intellect, strength, courage, and resourcefulness should grow.My 13-year-old friend, who is now into horses, loved it!
