Shin GI Tai
Karate is balance. Karate is Champuru.

A must for Martial Arts Libraries
Like his previous work on Hojo Undo Clarke Sensei has written a wonderful and concise work on training in Karate Do. His understanding of the history, people, kata and techniques of Karate Do....are distilled into this very important work. Both of his books have enriched my personal training greatly and I am grateful for his contributions to our art. Everyone who practices a more traditional path in Karate should read these books. And those who practice Karate as a sport....you should read these also...it may give you insight into what you are doing.

Connecting your whole person in Karate
Overall an excellent book for those currently practicing Karate, or thinking about beginning. The author does a good job explaining many aspects of traditional Okinawan Karate. The section on the training school, or dojo, is a little long. Also, the author erroneously connects Zen philosophy too much with Okinawan Karate, when in fact it was never Zen related until after WWII.Overall, an excellent text for novice, expert, or anywhere in between.

Shin Gi Tai: Karate training for body, mind and spirit
I have been searching for a book like this for a long time and I highly recomend it to all practicioners of traditional karate, finally some one who understands what Karate really is, a way of life. Micheal clark, you are truly a man worthy to be called a master.

But this is a terrific book to make you think about what you learn
No doubt about where Michael Clarke (no relation) stands on most issues, and I don't always agree with him. But this is a terrific book to make you think about what you learn, how you train, and why it matters.

Shin Gi Tai -
Excellent. I have used this as a reference book for conditioning training many times. Well written by a man who really knows his subject.
