Tomie dePaola's Mother Goose

My children grew up with this book, and now I’ve given it to my granddaughter. Classic Mother Goose with adorable illustrations. ❤️

Gave this book as a gift to a baby shower. Tomie de Paola is one of favorites. Read it to all my children. Tomi is a wonderful illustrator. Also, the rhymes are the original and complete versions.

Tomie dePaola's art is, as always, charming. However, some of the nursery rhymes have not aged well. There is the G*****y slur to refer to Romani and say they will steal children in the forest. There are strict gender roles of wives obediently following their husbands' words, and little boys are still made of slime and snails and puppy dog tails.

My favorite baby gift are the Tomie DePaolo books...Nursery Tales, Mother Goose and Poems. Beautifully illustrated and a joy for parents and children from babyhood on. My kids and grand kids enjoyed them and we are continuing to share them with all the new parents in our world.

As an amateur folklorist, I've always wondered where a lot of the verses to the old time mountain songs came from. Now I know. With just a few name and place changes in the verses, one can find a lot of the old time folksongs contain the lines from Mother Goose. Highly recommended.

Mother Goose rhymes are an excellent way to introduce a child to the world of language. This particular author and illustrator have created a very child-friendly book. The pictures in some Mother Goose books are scarey and not appealing, but this book is bright c olored and sweet. I bought these for my boys 25 years ago, and buy one for every baby as they come along...

This is a wonderful collection of mother goose nursery rhymes filled with colorful illustrations. My 3 children loved this book and I now purchase it as a baby gift. The rhythms of nursery rhymes are always a favorite with young children and this book is a gem--a great gift for parents to encourage a love of reading. And a wonderful opportunity for parents to snuggle with children while reading aloud!

This was recommended to us when our children were born, and became a family favourite for years and years. Now that our first grandchild has arrived, we're delighted that this book is still available, so that the family tradition of nursery rhymes at bedtime can continue. The delight with which our son received the book on the birth of his daughter showed how much he loved and remembered the book from his own childhood. A must for all young families.

i bought this compilation over 30 years ago. every day i read and sang nursery rhymes to my children. the accompanying pictures are colourful. the book is very sturdy. nursery rhymes are a great language builder!

Love it. I've been learning the songs with YouTube. My three year old wants to read it over and over, definitely a great purchase.
