Diamond Select ToysGhostbusters Gozer The Gozerian Figure

Good but Falls Short
Diamond managed to give us the main villain from Ghostbusters, something Mattel failed to do in the many number of years it had the license. And in the end? It's flawed but pretty okay. The proportions are weird, as they've given her a slightly larger noggin' than she should have and I believe Gozer's arms are far too short as well. May just be her forearms, not sure. The articulation works, but still limits the poses you can get out of this ancient god. Have some hot water handy to help soften any stuck joints, as some of the pegs (namely the wrists) feel very fragile if not handled with care. For accessories, Diamond needs to rethink how they're doing this line. The alternate head is baaaaaaaarely different, if different at all. Give us a more extreme expression guys, come on! Same with the hands. Why do we need two sets of hands that are barely posed different? And yet we don't have electricity shooting from er fingertips? Really? It's infuriating, and an issue that seems to pop up a lot in Diamond's Ghostbusters line: missed opportunities. In the end, it's still a pretty good figure, has good detail put into the body sculpt, paint is fine, articulation is...there. Gozer will look good on the rooftop BAF anyway.

Wasted Opportunity
Ghostbusters toy fans have been waiting for such a long time for an affordable Gozer figure and now we have one. While the sculpting is good the execution on this figure seemed rushed. One of her pack-ins include a piece to the gigantic diorama, which is all fine. But her other pack-ins include another head and another set of hands. The problem with this is that there are no noticeable differences to the head and hands that are already attached to her body in the package. Her posing capabilities are good but she can't stand on her own without leaning on something. On my figure the right ankle joint is so loose that it basically flops around. These figures, especially the female ones, need stands. Almost all of my Diamond Select Ghostbusters figures need to lean up against something to stand. Hopefully down the line DS releases stands for their figures. I was so excited when these figures were first released but with each new figure I'm just a little more let down by things that could have been easily fixed.

We must prepare for the coming of Gozer
I don’t know why but I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for villainous femme fatales, so when I saw this new Diamond Select Gozer figure warming the aisles at my local toy store I picked her up with no hesitation. The sculpt is actually pretty good and accurately captures much of her costume’s minute ectoplasmic detailing, and the articulation is more than generous for a figure of this scale. You won’t be able to get her to stand up by herself, but she does come with a round peg stand which works well for display purposes. What mystifies me is why she comes with not only an extra set of hands that looks exactly the same as the pair she is already sporting, but also an interchangeable head with almost no noticeable differences from her default look. Perhaps if these weren’t included at the expense of other, more useful accessories it would be more forgivable, but as it is this figure is a little bare bones. (The Amazon product page as well as another reviewer here make mention of a diorama piece that was supposed to be included, but I found no such thing in the package I purchased, just FYI.) Still, she’s cool for what she is and right now the retail price point is fairly reasonable. Any fan of Ghostbusters or quirky collectibles in general should be happy to add her to their shelf.
