Excellent supplement

For years, I have been taking a capsule of N-Acetyl-LCysteine (NAC) before I know will have a few drinks. For me, it seems to help lessen dehydration and hangover-like symptoms assuming you are not drinking a ton. If you drink too much, nothing will help. The Jarrow brand contains 500mg and my regular brand has 600mg but the Jarrow seems to work equally well assuming I'm only having a few drinks. I bought it since it was on a 70% off sale but has now gone back up to its normal price so I will probably go back to my normal brand unless it goes on sale again. When you first open a bottle of NAC, it may have a sulfur-like smell. I just leave the bottle open for a few days and shake it now and then and most of the odor goes away. The capsule size is very reasonable and they are tasteless assuming you swallow it whole and don't bite into it.

One of the key things I've always read about NAC was about it's liver-protecting ability. Granted, the following observation while taking this supplement is just that, a single, unscientifically tested observation, but I personally think it fits the narrative. So, I've been trialling a statin (atorvastatin --- generic Lipitor) for a few months now. After the first few weeks, one of my liver markers (ALT, specifically) had risen from normal to just above the upper limit of normal. Not enough for my doctor to take me off the statin, but a meaningful move and something to watch. I began taking the Jarrow Formulas NAC a couple months later, one capsule a day, for a reason unrelated to the statin. About a month after beginning NAC, I had another follow-up appointment with the doctor, and of course he ordered the liver work-up again. To my surprise, this time my ALT had fallen all the back to the middle of normal range. This is with all that additional time taking the statin, and even with a slightly higher frequency (I had been taking it five days a week, but had upped it to a full seven). Could it be that my liver had just adjusted to the statin over that time, and that my ALT would have returned to normal regardless of the NAC supplementation? I suppose it's possible...like I said, this was not a controlled study. But everything I've read would tend to make me think this is NOT the case, and that rather, the liver-protecting ability of NAC was showing through. Just one man's observation.

I use N-A-C supplements daily and have for over 2 years now. I have tried several different brands but I haven't ever found on that I like as much as this one. All the other N-A-C supplements that I have tried from other companies contain a few other ingredients which I don't need. I only need plain N-A-C which this provides (other than the capsule it comes in) but there are no other ingredients. Due to this being a supplement for N-A-C that doesn't contain a bunch of other supplements as well I have purchased this item at least 12 times in the last year (i average 1 bottle per month) and I will continue to purchase this item from this brand as it works well for me. If you are looking for a N-A-C supplement that is plan N-A-C I would recommend trying this one. I have never experienced and side effects or adverse reactions from this supplement. Always check with your doctor before taking ANY over the counter medication/supplements though.
