I’ve been a Spyderco fan for many years ever since I bought a Tenacious in 2017. This is most definitely improvement over that and some of the other knives that I’ve had. I had at one time purchased a lightweight version of this, but I found that it just felt cheap and flimsy. Now I know that it’s not actually the case as even the lightweight versions are very well-made and tend to hold up to quite a lot of abuse. But just the combination of the FRN handles and the lack of full liners just made it feel cheap so I ended up selling that one and use the money to purchase this more standard Version. And I must say I am very impressed. There’s a reason why this knife is pretty much a classic right alongside with the para military 2 I prefer this over the paramilitary 2 just simply because it’s a little bit easier for me to carry and it’s not quite as long. Now where I live we don’t have any restrictions on the length of a folding knife, but I find that for most things the 3 inch blade works just fine. The listing shows this is having an S 30 V blade. However mine did arrive with the newer upgraded S 45VN blade so just be aware you may or may not get an S 30 or an S 45 depending on which seller you purchased it from. I know many people have said that they have gotten counterfeit Spyderco’s from different sellers on here, but I thoroughly researched the different sellers and the feedback on them and I have to say I had no problems at all. The knife is a genuine Spyderco knife. This is USA made and you can definitely tell the difference between a USA made and a China made spyderco. That is not to say that the Chinese spydercos are terrible because they’re not but there’s definitely Better fit and finish on this USA made Para 3. The blade itself arrived sharp out of the box, the grind was fine the and blade deployed fairly easily with a flick from the hole. I have not yet perfected the Spidey flick with this knife, but you can slow roll it, or you can flick it out quite easily with your Thumb. This knife does not have bearings as far as I know I believe it is washers, but after several weeks of using it, it’s just to smooth as a knife with bearings. The handle feels absolutely great in my hand. It’s like it is size perfectly for me, now those with larger hands may find the little Curve or notch at the back a little uncomfortable and if that’s the case, you may prefer a paramilitary 2 Spyderco clips generally are quite good although I did go ahead and swap it out for more deep Carrie option. The compression lock is definitely a major upgrade over the regular liner, lock. I have no doubt that this knife will last me for many many years. After all, even some of my older spydercos like the tenacious or my delica have lasted for many years without issue as long as you properly maintain them you shouldn’t have any issues. I know that the price can be intimidating for some people and I do not necessarily recommend this as your first knife, but you definitely do get what you pay for with a Spyderco and I dare say it’s still a better deal than buying a bench made. While I realize Benchmades warranty and sharpening service is better, I don’t think that it justifies the almost $400 price that they charge for many of their knives nowdays. Most places you can find somebody who can sharpen the knife if you are unable to do it yourself. I happen to have a local Mennonite man that has a machine shop and a sharpening service and while I maintain most of them if my blades get too badly dull or need to be repaired or re profiled I just take them to him and have him take care of it for me, but I digress. This is an absolutely wonderful knife. It is equally good for EDC, tactical or as a heavy duty work knife. It can handle pretty much anything you throw at it. I use this knife at work, I use it at home and so far it hasn’t let me down. Now I have quite a large number of knives as I just can’t seem to help myself, but I do find myself coming back to this one or to my sage five more than any of my other knives. If you can get one get one, you will not regret it

I bought this knife to replace a Benchmade knife I lost which is now discontinued. My knife enthusiast brother-in-law recommended the Paramilitary 2 and that knife's reputation proceeds it. I prefer a 3-inch knife for nearly everything short of tasks which knives aren't really intended for. For almost every cutting task I perform with a 3-inch or so blade, I've very rarely thought, "I wish I had more blade." Plus, I have relatively small hands, so the Para 3 made sense to me for carrying most days. The main complaint I seemed to see with this knife was the default placement of the clip (right side, tip up). Spyderco would do well to follow Benchmade in offering deep carry clips for their knives. That said, in actual use, the extra pommel sticking out makes it much easier to access. So, for dressier occasions or when concealment needed, a deep carry clip or a different knife is a better option. Does it make the Para 3 less of a value because you might have to spend extra money on an after-market clip? That's for you to decide. Maybe some day Spyrderco will wisen to that. The textured G-10 scales on the Para 3 provide fantastic grip. I opted to replace them with some fancy micarta scales simply because I liked the look better. The originals provide much better grip - as good a grip as you can get without adding unnecessary bulk, but the new grips work fine for any kid of cutting I will do. The shape contours are very well designed. Unless you have really large hands, the knife can be gripped like a fixed blade knife, particularly when choking up on it. The jimping on the choil and below the hole on the blade make for easy precision cutting. As far as the blade goes, it doesn't get any better than S45VN at this price range. Less than a year ago, this blade steel was only available on sprint runs on the Paramilitary 2 and Para 3. It's tough, way tougher than 99% of the people who own it actually need, and not difficult to sharpen. Plenty sharp from the factory. The action is smooth and the compression lock locks up like a vault. I like that it can be unlocked without putting any fingers in the way of the blade when closing. Some people complain that the lock can pinch your hand a bit when flicking open with the thumb. This is where the "spidey flick" with the middle finger makes sense. It takes no effort to flick open with the middle finger and the compression lock avoids pinching your hand. Overall, this is a great knife.

Das Messer an sich ist sehr gut verarbeitet. Der Klingenstand ist mittig, der Anschliff symmetrisch. Das Loch in der Klinge bietet genug Halt, um die Klinge bequem einhändig öffnen zu können, ohne dabei scharfkantig zu sein. Insgesamt entspricht die Verarbeitung einem sehr hohen Level, das dem Preis angemessen ist. Der Verschluss (Compression Lock) ist felsenfest und es gibt keinerlei Klingenspiel. Schließen lässt sich das Messer mit der rechten Hand einigermaßen bequem, mit der linken ist es doch eher unpraktisch, da der Daumen sowohl die Feder lösen, als auch das Messer halten muss. Der Klingengang ist sehr leicht. Im geschlossenen Zustand wird die Klinge mit leichtem Federdruck gehalten (detent ball). Positiv ist dabei, dass die Klinge erst kurz vor der geschlossenen Position "zuschnappt", allerdings ist der Federdruck wenig vertrauenswürdig. Zwar fällt die Klinge nicht einfach aus dem Griff, ich könnte mir allerdings vorstellen, dass sie sich in der Tasche öffnen könnte (vor allem, wenn man noch andere Dinge in der Tasche hat, die sich im Loch verfangen könnten oder durch die offene Konstruktion auf die Schneide drücken). Öffnet man das Messer, gibt es einen recht hohen Widerstand auf dem Weg der Klinge, kurz bevor sie einrastet. Das liegt daran, dass der detent ball von der Klingenwurzel rutscht, der Liner jedoch noch ein Stück weit über die Wurzel rutscht, bevor er in der Kerbe der Klinge zwischen dieser und einem Pin einrastet. Dieser Widerstand kann beim Öffnen störend sein, bzw. die Klinge stoppen, bevor sie vollends einrastet. Der Clip ist praktisch und fest. In der Weise, wie er vormontiert ist, guckt viel vom Griff aus der Tasche heraus. Ob das gut oder schlecht ist, muss jeder für sich selbst entscheiden. Der Griff ist aus G-10-Schalen und sehr rau, sodass man sehr guten Halt auf Kosten einer angenehmen Oberfläche hat. Der Zeigefinger lässt sich entweder direkt hinter die Schneide legen, oder weit davon entfernt in die nächste Mulde. Im letzeren Fall ist der Griff ein wenig zu kurz für meine mittelgroßen Hände, um den kleinen Finger noch gut auflegen zu können. Im ersten Fall gibt es viel Kontrolle, aber wenig Komfort. Auf andere Arten lässt sich der Griff auf Grund der Höhe nur bedingt greifen. Das lässt darauf schließen, dass das Messer für gröbere Arbeiten und einen festen Griff entwickelt wurde, nicht jedoch für universelle Einsatzgebiete. Das passt auch zu dem Eindruck eines Arbeitsmesser, den ich davon hatte. Insgesamt bin ich jedoch von der Ergonomie enttäuscht, für die Spyderco sonst so berühmt ist. Ich hatte das Para 3 neu für 169,95 € gekauft und trotz anfänglicher Begeisterung habe es schließlich zurückgegeben, vor allem da ich es auf keine Weise gut greifen konnte und da der Rückhaltemechanismus im geschlossenen Zustand wenig vertrauenswürdig ist. Daher könnte ich es nur Leuten empfehlen, die es nicht in der Tasche tragen wollen, was bei einem Taschenmesser doch schade ist. Außerdem muss jeder für sich entscheiden, ob die Ergonomie und damit beschränkte Einsetzbarkeit für einen persönlich passt. Von der Verarbeitungsqualität bin ich jedoch nach wie vor beeindruckt.

Mit dem Para 3 habe ich mein erstes Spyderco Messer erworben. Es war auch wirklich schon an er Zeit. Ich habe sogar einen youtube Kanal, der sich unter anderem mit Messern befasst (Name: "Alittleolder") aber Spyderco war mir nie so sympathisch. Irgendwie war die Form nicht so meines und ich fand auch, dass die alle ziemlich gleich ausgeschaut haben. Da ich diesen Monat aber kein Teures Messer kaufen wollte und ich zufällig auf Amazon.de war hab ich mal das Para 3 zum, für Europa, super Preis von 169,95 bestellt. Im Vorfeld wusste ich eigentlich nur 3 Zoll Klinge, Kompressionsarretierung, wobei das einfach umständlich ausgedrückt ist für "oben liegender Liner Lock" und S30V Stahl. Das fand, bzw. finde ich etwas seltsam heutzutage noch S30V zu verwenden , wo jeder schon S35VN als Standard hat. Aber egal. Das Messer schneidet super. Ist sowohl für Holzarbeiten, also schnitzen bis hin zur Essenszubereitung geeignet. Es lässt sich auch "Spideyflicken" also mit dem Mittelfinger von hinten aufschnalzen. Es schein sehr stabil gebaut, ist auch Made in USA. Ich kann noch nicht so viel drüber sagen, aber wer Spyderco mag, wird sich dieses Messer sowieso kaufen. Für Spyderco Verhältnisse sogar recht günstig. Nur halt der Stahl ist nicht mehr Zeitgemäß.
