Lore Olympus: Volume One

I love the webtoon and I also wanted to keep a printed copy for myself. The book really feels nice to hold and colors were how it was in the story too. I just love the story so much 😘😘😘

First off why is the UK version £35.00? I bought instead the (don’t laugh) US and Canada version, the difference? dunno I didn’t acquire an American accent when I read it, though to be honest of course there was the US spelling rather than the correct way, uh hu. Anyhoo I took off the one star not because the UK version was soooo expensive, but because the packaging was appalling. My lovely book (hardback version of course) was rattling around in a broken taped up box, the only padding was a small piece of that big bubble stuff two bubbles to be precise, not impressed darlings. The book should have had its own shrink wrap but didn’t. But oh the book, oh my dears it is wonderful especially that new chapter right at the end that got omitted from the series, explains a lot it do. The book is large the pages glossy and there are a lot of them. I was sniffing the book (with my eyes closed) when my darling hubby came in and said ‘it’s a comic I could read that’. I did proceed to tell him that if he put his grubby paws on it I would hit him with a brick, not a book of course as I love my books and this is my new obsession. Am I mean not letting him near it nooooo darlings noooooo, (whisper) he bends the pages, I know agghhhh right? He turns the page by pushing it along thus folding it, he also eeaaargghh licks his finger, no just no. Anyway, do I recommend this wonderful book? of course it is beautiful, I can read little bits as I please, but please watch out for the price. Volume 2 I will pre-order to get it at the best price, and I will get the UK version to see what’s different. Happy reading.

I don't usually read graphic novels but my friend who I highly respect raved about this retelling of Persephone and Hades. And because I trust her reviews and do like the retelling of what initially is a pretty chilling Greek myth (the irony of making it a love story must have the Greek gods turning in their graves and as a woman, there is some pleasure I take in that) is always a curiosity to me. So I bought the book thinking at least the artwork is different and beautiful capturing women as we see ourselves. And I can recommend the book for that itself, this is definitely done through the female gaze which is refreshing. And now I can't help but think I should read more graphic novels by women to see more of this female gaze in romance with pictures. As for the story, well as many others have said and I will reiterate, it was a fantastic modern retelling of the Persephone and Hades myth. I was devasted at the end because yeah, we have all been there girl, every step of the way. I am looking forward to the second book and preordered. It's so simple, yet so new, fresh, and compelling as a woman reading this. I can highly recommend it to all women I know even if you've never read a graphic novel or don't particularly like romance. It's still worth it as a story of modern love with ancient characters.

Okay, let me start off by saying I absolutely LOVE LO, I think it's an amazing story and I love the art. I'm an LO fast passer on Webtoon so I'm already many episodes ahead of where this book ended.The reason I gave 4 stars is because of where this book ends. I don't know if this was the author's choice or the publisher's choice, but it just doesn't end in a good spot in my opinion and for someone new to LO, I don't know if this would get me into the comic.I love seeing how the art transforms on the webtoon, you can clearly see the author/artist's development online and it's beautiful. My issue with this print version is, I kind of hoped the panels would've been updated to reflect that artistic development. That's just me and it doesn't take away from the story for me at all.I LOVED the bonus chapter, I think that was a nice little addition and explains the coat so much better as well as a bit more into why Hera meddles in later episodes.Overall, I'm happy to have LO in my hands and I'll be waiting to add volume 2 to my collection.

I’ve followed this WEBTOON since before Rachel changed her style and redid the first few chapters, and I was so excited to see and own the first 25 chapters in print!Though I was dubious about how it’s look in book form and read about the issues people in the US were having with their copies (upside down books, misprints and broken spines) mine arrived perfectly and is absolutely gorgeous. The colours are bold and decadent, and the extra chapter was a brilliant extra.I ordered when it first came on Amazon for pre-order but it was cancelled, I was disappointed as I ordered it 2 minutes after it being cancelled and though it was delayed by a week more it arrived. I was also annoyed that I was charged slightly more for it too because of this.All being said though I can’t wait for volume two to arrive!
