Puccini: Madame Butterfly

I've listened to many recordings of Butterfly, including Pav, Domingo, Tucker, and others. This is the absolute best of them all. Carlo Bergonzi is at his best in this recording. His voice is incredibly beautiful and his emotion and passion are unparallelled. Tebaldi is also great, although she has such a powerful voice that it sometimes becomes harsh in this recording (perhaps they mixed her in at too high a level?). The supporting cast is likewise terrific. If you had to get one recording of Butterfly, this is the one.

My favorite OPERA. Lovely to listen too...fast delivery as well.

This recording is well-balanced and the singers are all competent and strong. I can't say that I find it particularly exciting, but it's not one of my favorite operas either, even though I'm quite a Puccini fan. Since the recording is ADD, you won't have quite the feeling of being there that a good DDD recording will provide. But I think it's worth the money to add it to your collection.

This Madama Butterfly is wonderful---I had forgotten how magnificent Renata Tebaldi's voice was and Bergonzi is one of my favorites---cool,clean, powerful and oh, so moving. Highly reccomend !
