Q: Is this sturdy enough to put grocery items in for her while we are shopping?

Yes, it is but just use the top basket. The bottom rack keeps coming off (it'll be an easy fix when I can get around to it) and won't hold much weight. I also had to super glue the part where the doll sits into the sides but it's sturdy now. This basket is actually really great. I love that you can take the top basket out. And the wheels roll very smoothly.
