Q: I have a Marantz amplifier, will this power these?

No. The amp needs to be 70Volts not 4 or 8 Ohms.

Q: How do you power these speakers? I'm running speaker wire from receiver but it barely plays any sound even at top volume.

Just a couple of suggestions .... (1) make sure that the speakers are set at the correct transformer settings for your amplifier. This speaker can do line inputs of 70V or 100V. We typically install 70V, so my experience is with that. Also, check the wattage setting on the transformer. This speaker can tap as low as 7.5 watts up to 60 watts. It may be the speaker is tapped too low to hear any volume. (2) Depending on the receiver/amp you are using, make sure that your speaker output matches the transformer of the speakers (for example, the speakers and amp both need to be 70V or whatever other impedance to work properly). One thing we discovered using certain models of JBL receivers is that the receiver itself will have dip switches, and you have to place those in the correct formation in order to make your output 70V. We installed a system and was having the exact same problem, it just wasn't very loud. Once we discovered that the dip switches were not correct for our install (70V), we made the changes and it was a huge help. I know this sounds like basic stuff, but it always seems to be that when something isn't working right for us, it's because we missed a setting on the amp or the speaker transformer and did not have it matching properly.
