Got better as it progressed
onklin's Blueprints is one example of why I have a hard time not finishing a book once I start it. I started this book and really did not like it. I thought about putting it aside, but didn't and it did get much better. I didn't absolutely love it by the end, but it was good. The books opens with Becca recapping her life up until now which was not much fun to read. It was written in such a dry, boring way that I didn't really care. I was just like can we get on with it? I don't like telling, I much prefer showing, and it was such a big chunk of telling me. I just really don't like that. Then we get to the present and it continues with this telling not showing thing and I just thought this might not be the book for me. Once she meets Tyler and they start to interact more there is more showing and it did get much better.Tyler obviously has issues. Major issues. He had a messed up relationship with his nanny, he hates his dad and pretty much doesn't talk to his mom, he just has issues. He obviously likes Becca, but doesn't really know what to do about it. He is not used to being touched, or being able to touch others, and he struggles with things that are in a normal relationship (since he has never had one). Becca gets annoyed with him all the time and I got annoyed with her for that. She freaks out when he won't or can't do something she wants him to, but never once thinks about what she is asking of him. When he does open up to her, she still doesn't understand why he won't tell his dad. I know some of it is her own issues, especially since her last boyfriend cheated on her with her supposed bff.As for the bff...why in the world is Becca friends with Ashlynn? She lets her walk all over her and says nothing. She decided when she moved back to Grand Rapids she was not going to let people walk all over her, yet those who previously did she still does. It annoyed me to no end that she would stick up for Ashlynn and let her do whatever, when the people who actually cared about Becca got the short end of the stick. If the people who actually cared about her did or said anything she instantly called them out and was pretty terrible to them. It was just like why not get rid of the actual horrible people instead of trying to alienate the people who are nice to you. Ugh. She drove me crazy at times.Becca also has issues, as seen above. She has trust issues, issues with food, with her self esteem, everything like that. Tyler understands and tries to be helpful. He doesn't push her to eat junk, or a ton or anything, though he does say at one point that if she stops eating then they have problems. I understand where it all comes from. Her mom is horrible, always saying how she needs to loose weight and maybe she shouldn't eat this or that. Plus Ashlynn is always like that as well, so between the two of them hearing how fat you are and how you need to work on your figure your whole life really can mess you up. How you are not pretty and thin and perfect. So Becca does try to become perfect, even though she doesn't need to. I did feel bad for her that she had so much negativity in her life, but she also frustrated me at times. The last part of the book was really frustrating for me. The fact that Becca could have so much in her life that has caused her to act certain ways, but at the same time won't acknowledge what Tyler is going through annoyed me. He is trying. He is obviously trying, and when he opens up to her and she is just like whatever, I don't care about anything you have told me you are obviously horrible and no, it was just...I just wanted to scream at Becca. Tyler is not the bad guy. If you can keep Ashlynn in your life, who is toxic, why not let Tyler in who is just trying so hard. I felt so bad for Tyler.Overall it started off bad, got much better, then had an annoying last part, though it did end on a good note. So not my favorite read ever but I was enjoying it after the first few chapters. This review was originally posted to Jen in Bookland

Loved this book!
Ahhhh, what a great book! Tyler Conklin...yum!This book immediately hooked me and I couldn't willingly put it down. The few times I was forced to it never left my mind. Brooke Page weaved a captivating story about two completely broken people who just want to be loved despite their previous less than desirable experiences with love. The storyline itself isn't necessarily original, but the characters make it feel that way. This book has an odd combination. Although the characters are somewhat dark/Debbie Downers who are continuously trying to overcome their pasts.. the story itself is really enjoyable and fun. You would have thought I was the one dating Tyler Conklin as much as I swooned. My husband repeatedly asked, "What the hell are you grinning about over there?" lol. I couldn't help it, these two had great chemistry! And to those who care about the sex - it was pretty steamy and definitely NOT overdone or repetitive.Becca is our heroine and I'm conflicted as to how I feel about her. Throughout most of the book she is a stage 5 clinger with over-the-top self-esteem issues. I get that she faced the ultimate betrayal and that she has mommy issues, but I still had trouble understanding some of the irrational thoughts that went through that poor girl's head. Becca is also a huge push over. I, myself, am a pushover and avoid confrontation like it's the plague, but the things Becca put up with were outlandish. I wanted to reach through the book and shake some sense into her multiple times. That being said, I didn't hate her and fortunately she finally had a breaking point (one of my favorite scenes in the book). She was much more likeable/tolerable after that. Then we have Tyler Conklin (I'm smiling just thinking about this guy).. he's the mysterious, sexy, strong, silent type. Tyler's family owns the architecture firm that Becca works for. He's had a similar past as Becca.. just a much more dark and demented version. He's not one to attach himself to people and doesn't do relationships, but when he meets Becca he's unable to stay away (as long as they are in private and away from prying eyes that is). Becca's low self-esteem combined with him wanting a "secret" relationship sets the path for a bumpy ride, and Tyler has to choose between revealing the dark secrets of his past or risk losing Becca. The characters are well developed and I'm a little sad to see it's only a trilogy because the character spinoff possibilities are unlimited. The Conklin's in general are a fascinating bunch.. even RJ. Their personalities are very different and distinguishable. From the book 2 teaser that is at the end of the book it looks like we will be getting to learn a lot more about the Conklin's and I can hardly wait! Conklin's Blueprints is NOT a cliffhanger, but be warned that the teaser for Conklin's Blueprints: Revised will have you aching for more!

Five Tyler adoring stars!
Conklin’s Blueprints by Brook PageI want a Tyler! That is all!Holy wow! I think I may have just found my next favourite book boyfriend in Tyler Conklin! In this book we meet Becca a brokenhearted trainee architect from a priviledged background, who as well as starting a new job is turning over a new leaf in her life. After being betrayed by her ex and her ex best friend she spends a year living it up but soon realizes it’s not the life for her. A chance encounter initially brings her to the attention of Tyler who has his own dark secrets and hidden issues and this story is a truly gorgeous story of finding love and overcoming pasts. I found myself utterly immersed in the developing story and loved the balance between the passion of Becca and Tyler but also loved the ups and downs of their story too.Becca is portrayed through the book as being a sweet, meek and mild character you can’t help but like and you do feel sorry for her and her issues with self image and her annoying habit of trying to please everyone but to her own cost. I personally identified with a lot of the emotions that she went through throughout the book. You can’t help feeling that in a lot of ways the world is against her and I was rooting for her and felt every emotion she went through. Although some of her choices made me a little mad at times I did whoop with joy at the end – and not for the reasons you are probably thinking either!Tyler, well without spoiling anything, I just LOVED him. End of. He is portrayed as a really romantic caring guy at times but with obvious issues too and it takes a lot for him to open up and be the man Becca wants and needs him to be. Again though there were times I felt like leaning into the book and slapping him one but he always seemed to do something to redeem himself to me!The chemistry and attraction between both Becca and Tyler is amazing to behold but don’t be under the illusion that this is a happy straight-forward romance novel. It will have you laughing, crying, groaning in utter frustration and will keep you gripped until the bitter end. So much comes between them and you will be left wondering whether they will actually make it through.I also loved the other characters in the book too and loved how each of them had shaped Becca and Tyler into the characters from which they both fought hard to break free. The ending leaves you satisfied but with a lot of unresolved questions and I SERIOULSY cannot wait to read Conklin’s Foundation – the Prologue is in the back of the book and my attention was seriously sparked after reading it!5 Tyler adoring stars!

Mat drawn out story ever!
This book seemed promising. But it just goes on and on. There's a lot of pointless scenes. It's not structured great which makes you skip some of the scenes. The characters are ok. Tyler is forgettable, he's not that loveable. Becca is a bit of a drag and a bit of a doormat. You're reminded every other page that we doesn't like her body and that her self esteem is 0 out of 100.The ending was just boring and quite anticlimactic. There was a good premise here it just wasn't structured great. The writing is ok. Like I said before it drags in parts. I nearly stopped reading it

Likeable story
This was a easy flowing story about Becca and Tyler.Becca has low esteem due to her family and friends belittling her. This is made worse when she finds her boyfriend in bed with her bitchy best friend. The result is that, with her friend Jamie she spends a promiscuous year clubbing. After a terrifying experience she decides to get a job and return home. Becca try's hard to avoid her wealthy family's influence in the town of Grand Rapids where she lands a job at Conklin's an architecture firm. Here she meets Tyler, the son of the owner. Tyler is immediately attracted to Becca but he has his own personnel issues to work through. There are many emotional twists and turns before Becca finally stands up for herself. It's a likeable story that is worth reading even though there are spelling and grammatical errors.

Hard work
I haven't been enjoying this book, pretty much from the start - I've worked all the way through and some times it was hard work. While the writing isn't bad, it's the characters that for me really let it down. They were self-centred and unlikable.I found them annoying "oh me, I have terrible secrets which I can't share", "it's not what you think, it's actually me not you" - it was only at the very end that I felt the characters become "more".Unfortunately, the epilogue has now put me off reading the other books in this trilogy.

Loved it
I have to say I completely fell in love with this book and Tyler & Becca.Slightly different storyline which can only be a good thing...great writing and editing too.I lived Becca's growth in this especially and cheered very loudly towards the end when she actually stood up for herself and told everyone what she thought of them...Go girl!Lots of bumps along the way and many more to come I'm sure but I did totally enjoy the ride ....it's really time for Tyler to man up now and really acknowledge Becca and grow just as she has done.Bring on the next book....cannot wait
