I received the charger on a day it was raining. It doesn't happen very often in Phoenix, but it does happen. Anxious to try it out I placed the charger in my living room window. Instantly the charging indicator light came on. I plugged in my android phone and it began charging! This was through a pain of glass and with the sun totally hidden by rain clouds! The phone was totally dead but did get a 20% charge in about 2 hours. I couldn't wait to see it in action under IDEAL CONDITIONS. The next day was a partly cloudy day in Phoenix. I placed the charger outdoors, attaching it to my photo tri-pod, this is an excellent way to use the charger, by the way, as it allows a sturdy position off the ground and allows the angle to the sun to be dialed in. The charger charged my android phone which was totally dead in about 60 minutes! I also had a charging battery attached to the charger and this reached 3 out of 4 bars in the same time. This is a fantastic product and I am and will be recommending it to every one I know. Thanks for building such an awesome product!

The Ryno Tuff charger performed excellently on a week-long backpacking trip in the Sierra Nevada in late July/early August. We could charge two phones at once whenever the sun was shining, even when it had just risen or was about to set. Phones charged fast during most of the day. It could charge a phone strapped to a backpack when the hiker was going in and out of shade. We had no trouble keeping three phones charged while spending very little time each day working at it. We appreciated having our phones ready to go for accessing topographical maps, stored books, music (what's backpacking without a band?), and taking photos and videos. It was definitely worth the weight as part of our group gear. We used our own charging cords, which carry more current than the one provided with the charger. The cord provided worked fine when tested. One negative issue: we found we had to keep the panel with the USB ports out of the sun during the middle of the day, or it would overheat and stop charging. We usually did this by folding it back out of the way, which often meant one of the solar panels wasn't facing the ideal direction, but we still had rapid charging. This wasn't an issue early or late in the day. The charger held up fine to one backpacking trip. It's too early to really rate durability or sturdiness over a typical year of outdoor adventure activities.

This panel is made quite well. I can't really rate it as I have only used it once to charge NIMH batteries. However it worked fine in full sun and charged them at the speed they would have charged plugged into a 110 volt USB wall wart. While showing it to a neighbor I noticed that evening when not in full sun the led came on so I guess it was putting out some voltage. I didn't think to measure it at the time. I haven't done anything with it that would test it's durability in an outside environment like hiking or camping but it seems to be made quite well and would be up to the task. Time will tell.
